Chapter 25 - Reveals and Stress

Chapter 25

Ashley-

I'm now three months pregnant, and today, Ross and I get to find out what the gender is of the baby. Carter was staying with Mom for the remainder of the time we'll be gone; we'll tell him after we pick him up and get back home.

"You nervous?" Ross takes my hand in his across the console in the car, one hand still on the steering wheel.

"A little," I say. "But I know whatever happens, everyone will be happy."

There's a comfortable silence after that, and we finally arrive at the clinic.

"Ashley Lynch," Ross tells the receptionist when we arrive inside, as we reserved a few days before this.

"She'll take you in a few minutes," she smiles politely at Ross. "Thank you." He smiles, sitting next to me in one of the hard waiting room chairs.

The doctor finally takes us in soon after, spreading the gel stuff on my stomach, and Ross takes my hand in his gently, rubbing his thumb over my knuckles.

"How far along are you?" She asks. "Three months," I reply and watch the screen as she slides the scanner over the gelled over area.

"Okay, here we have your baby," she smiles at us, and Ross smiles down at me. "Would you like to know the gender?"

I look at her again. "Yes please," I say. "You have a baby girl on the way." Happy tears fill my eyes, and Ross beams.

"I'll let you have some time," she smiles at us, walking out of the room.

"I can't believe this," Ross breathes. "This is amazing." I smile. "I can't either. We're having a baby girl."

The doctor comes back in, wiping off the gel, saying her congratulations.

"Have a nice rest of your day," she smiles as walk out of the clinic.  "Thank you." I smile, and Ross and I climb into the car, driving to Mom and Dad's place to pick up Carter.

"Hello!" I call as we walk through the door. "MOMMY!" Carter runs toward me full-speed, knocking into me, making me loose my balance, but Ross catches me from behind, helping me up again.

"Hey guys," Mom walks in. "What's the verdict?" I smile. "It's a girl."

"It's getting a little sister?!" Carter squeals,  and I nod still smiling. "YAY! I CAN'T WAIT! I CAN'T WAIT!"

"Auntie Ashwey?" Ariel walks in, and I smile down at her.

"Hi there," I say. "You're going to have a baby cousin soon. She's going to love playing with your dolls with you." She smiles. "Really? It's a she? Finally I'll have someone to play dollies with!" I smile, and we tell everyone the news, then head home.

"Ash," Ross says as he walks into our room. "Yeah?" I say softly. "Where's that shirt I asked you to wash?"

Crap. I totally got sidetracked with all the baby stuff. "I'm sorry, Ross. It totally slipped my mind with all the baby stuff." He sighs quietly. "It's good. Is there any other shirts clean?" I nod. "Closet." I lay back on the bed, closing my eyes, finally getting to rest.

"Ash, what's up?" Ross whispers, and I feel him lay next to me.

"I'm just so tired," I explain. "Why don't you ask me to help with stuff around the house then?" I open my eyes. "I dunno. I guess I didn't think of it."

"From now on, I'm helping you then," he states. "Where do you want to start?"

"You could start on the laundry," I laugh. "But I'd have to show you how." He nods. "That could work." I smile.

"We'll do it later," I nuzzle into his neck, leaving a light kiss there. "Mmhmm." He hums, wrapping his arms around me, his face buried in my hair.
