Chapter 11
Ashley-
My phone vibrates on my nightstand from a text. I reach over, and my clock reads 3:30am. Why would someone be texting me at this time. I try my hardest to not wake Ross in the process of getting up, but I fail.
"Where are you going, babe?" Ross groggily asks, pulling me back in his arms.
'Delly: Ash, please come to my room. It's urgent. I need to talk to u.'
"Just go back to sleep, Ross," I whisper, kissing his forehead as he puts his head back down on the pillow, light snores erupting from him right after.
I walk out of our room, slipping on one of Ross' sweatshirts and my glasses, down the hall to Rydel's room, knocking softly, then opening the door to see her crying in Ellington's arms. I rush in, closing the door.
"What's wrong?" I direct this question mostly at Ell.
"Well, uh," Ell whispers something to Rydel, and she nods. "Delly's pregnant. You can't tell Stormie and Mark."
My eyes widen, but then go back to normal. "Oh, um... Okay. What can I do to help? Anything?"
"Just try to keep it on the down low until we're ready to tell them,"
I nod, staring at Rydel. It's going to start to be noticeable soon. After a few moments of silence, I say, "I better head back to bed. You going to be okay?"
Ell nods. "Yea, I think so. Thanks Ash,"
I nod, sending a soft smile his way, walking out, closing the door, and returning to mine and Ross' room. I crawl under the covers, laying down on my back, as I feel an arm draped over my stomach.
"Where'd you go?" Ross lifts his head slightly, his eyes only half open.
"Had to go help Delly," I whisper, running a hand through his hair. "Go back to sleep, it's early."
"No," he rubs his eyes. "I wanna stay with you." I giggle and roll my eyes. "Okay, but there's not much of anything here to see."
"Sure there is," he sits up, wrapping an arm around me, pulling me closer. "There's you." He kisses my temple softly.
"Have you thought about names yet?" I whisper after a moment of silence.
"A little," he says softly. "What about Carter Shor?"
"I like that," I look up at him. "So it's decided?"
"Mmhmm," he hums, leaning down to kiss me lightly. We pull away, "You wanna get something to eat?"
I look at the time. 4:55.
"It's a little early, isn't it?" I laugh a little. "Yeah, maybe. What do you want to do then?"
I think for a minute, but then feel my eyelids drooping. Finally, I feel myself fall asleep against Ross' shoulder.
~~~
When I wake, I feel someone still beside me, and assume it's Ross, so I move in closer to their side.
"Good morning," I hear Ross whisper in my ear. I smile groggily, opening my eyes, squinting and adjusting, then fully open them.
"Good morning," I yawn. "Did you get to sleep?"
Ross shakes his head. "No, but I like watching you sleep. You're so cute when you sleep," he grins down at me, then I realize I don't have my glasses.
"Where are my glasses?" I ask, just as he slips them on my face for me. "There ya go," he still grins, but now I can see him clearly.
"What time is it?"
"7:30. I think we should head down for breakfast."
"Yeah. Let's go." We head down the stairs, arriving in the kitchen, and I sit on the counter.
"What'd you want for breakfast?" Ross pops his head out of the fridge, looking at me.
"Eggs and bacon," I say without a thought. "And pancakes."
"Alrighty, coming right up ma'am." He does a posh accent, making me giggle a little as he takes out all the pans he needs and gets to work. After a little while, as Ross waits for the bacon to cook, he walks to me and wraps his arms around my waist. I wrap my legs around his waist, pulling as close as possible.
"You're so beautiful," Ross mumbles.
"Sure," I laugh sarcastically.
"But you are," he leans closer to me, and kisses the tip of my nose. "Why don't you believe me?"
"Because," I say. "You could have any other girl you wanted, and you see thousands every show you do, but you picked me. Your sister."
"Yeah, but," he starts. "You're all I need and want. And now we have a son on the way."
I don't respond, I just start to play with his hair a little.
~~~
After we eat breakfast, we both get showered, dressed, everything like that. Mom suggested that since everyone was ready now, that we should go out to walk around a little. And that's what we did.
"Ash, Ash! Catch!" Ryland throws me the football, but I misjudged the distance by a bit and hit my stomach, making me fall onto the grass. "Oh my god, are you okay?!" Ryland runs over at the same time as Ross.
"Baby, you okay?" Ross helps me back to my feet, but glares at Ryland. "She doesn't need your help."
"Ross!" I scold him. "Ry, I'm totally fine, don't worry," I lean in closer to his ear, then whisper, "I'm sorry about Ross." He nods, sends a small smile my way, and runs off with the ball to play with Riker, Rocky, and Ell.
"What'd you say to him?" Ross asks. "Why were you being so rude to him?" I shoot back. Ross rolls his eyes, not answering.
"Ash! C'mere!" Rydel calls me over to a bench. I walk over, sitting next to her. "Yeah?"
"What's up with Ross?"
"I dunno. He's being overprotective, and I don't like it. I'll talk to him about it when we get back."
Rydel nods, and I decide to ask, "What about the... Y'know..."
"Oh - well, uh, we're not sure when we're going to tell everyone. Maybe in a few days, I don't know." I nod. "You better to do it soon, only because it'll start to be noticeable."
"Delly!" Ellington walks over to us, sitting next to Rydel. "What're you two talking about?"
"Nothing much," I cover for Delly. I know that she didn't want to talk about it much anymore. "Just about some new music you guys are writing. By the way, how's that going?"
"Good, good," Ell grins. "We're just laying down the music for a few songs and stuff like that. How's the baby?"
"He's good," I smile. "It's a he?" "Mmhmm," I nod. "His name's Carter Shor."
~~~
After we arrive home, I immediately go into mine and Ross' room, and shut the door quietly behind me.
"Ash!" Ross barges in, closing the door again behind him. "What was that at the park?!"
"You were being to our brother, that's what!" I snap, standing from the bed.
"I was not!" He defends himself. "I was-"
"You were protecting me! Yeah, I know! But you're too overprotective! And I want it to stop!" Both of our voices were raised as we argued.
"So you'd rather get hurt than have me prevent it?!"
"Yeah, I guess so!" I storm out, tears in my eyes, to my old room, to see Ryland.
