Chapter 3
Ashley-
We drove to the Lynch's house in their van, and I sat in between Ross and Rocky on the way home. We did our introductions at the orphanage. We finally arrive home, everyone helping up to my room with my bags, putting them atop my bed.
"I finally have a sister! Eek!" Rydel squeals, squishing me in a hug.
I smile lightly. Was she really that excited? "I finally do too."
She pulls away, looking at me. "You never had before this?" I shake my head. "I've never had any siblings. I was an only child."
"That's alright! We can share this first time experience together!" She still smiles. "I'll let you unpack, see you downstairs!"
She skips out of my room, letting me take in my surroundings.
The walls were a light, pastel pink, with some musical wall stickers on one of the larger walls, making me smile. There was a double bed, dresser with a mirror, a really big closet, and on the far end of the room, there was a music corner. It had a keyboard, guitar, and a stand for that, plus some old piano books that I'm assuming were Rydel's at one point. I'm going to guess that in my file that it said I played these, but they didn't have to get them for me.
I walk over, sitting on the piano bench, playing a song I knew by heart. I've been playing piano since I was about 8.
"That sounds good," I hear from the door, making me jump. I was too engrossed in the song I hadn't realized that I zoned out.
"Oh - uhm, thanks," I look up to see Ross standing in the doorway, arms crossed, a light, friendly smile engraved on his lips. "So these," I motion to the keyboard and guitar. "Are mine?"
Ross nods. "Yeah. Rydel let you have one of her keyboards, and Rocky and I let you have one of our guitars. We have a bunch of them."
"Well, thank you," I smile lightly at him. "You didn't have to though."
"Nah, don't mention it," he walks in, standing beside the piano bench. "So what was the name of that song you were playing?"
Ross-
I sit on the piano bench beside Ashley, letting her out her hand ontop of mine, pressing my fingers down. When she put her hand on mine, I feel something. I feel sparks. But I ignore them, because I can't have these feelings for my sister - well, she isn't my blood-related sister, but you get what I mean.
"Ross? You alright? I was saying that you have to press down e and d first, then a." Ashley snaps me out of my trance. I hadn't realized I'd been staring.
Ashley-
I feel butterflies erupt in my stomach as I put my hand ontop of Ross'. No. I couldn't feel these feeling for my brother. Well, half. But it doesn't matter, he's my brother now. Not anything else. I catch him staring. I snap him out of it.
"Sorry, Ash," Ross blinks a few times. "Oh - is it alright if I call you that?"
"Sure," I shrug, smiling lightly.
"Kids! Time for dinner!" I hear Stormie call up the stairs.
Ross and I look at each other, then he jumps up. "Race ya!"
A sly grin comes across my face. This should be fun. I end up winning, but I stop in the entrance of the dining room, not knowing where to sit.
"Here, come sit beside me!" Rydel pats the seat beside her, and I walk around the table, sitting beside her. I look over to my right, and see Rocky. He smiles at me, making me smile.
I then discover I'm across from Ross, beside him is Riker, and then Ryland on his left, plus Mark on one of the short sides of the table, and finally Stormie across from Mark on my right.
"What kind of music are you into?"
"Do you like pop rock?"
"Did you have any siblings?"
"Kids!" Stormie interuppts the questions being thrown at me. She turns to me. "I'm sorry, dear. Now, one at a time."
"What kind of music do you listen to?" Riker swallows his food as he asks this.
"Well, I listen to your guys' music a lot," I say. Their faces light up. "That's awesome!" Riker says excitedly. "What's your favourite song?" I take a bite of my food, chewing, then swallowing.
"Uhm, well, I have a lot of favourites actually," I say. "But if I had to choose one, it would have to be If I Can't Be With You."
"And in your file it said you played piano and guitar," Rocky speaks from beside me. I turn my head, nodding and smiling. "Yeah, I've played both since I was 8. My parents were pretty musical."
"Cool," he nods. "I could teach you some stuff on the guitar if you wanted." I nod. "Sure."
Soon, we were all finished eating, and I headed upstairs to start unpacking. I put all my clothes in the dresser and closet, then I line up my shoes near the door in a neat line.
"Ashley? You in here?" Stormie calls outside my door.
"In here!" I call, loud enough so she could hear.
She walks in, sitting on my bed. I sit beside her.
"Mark and I talked," she starts. "And we thought it would be nice if you called us Mom and Dad. I mean, since now you're one of our own."
"R-really?" I gawk. She smiles and nods as she hugs me, kissing my hair. "Thanks Storm - Mom." I correct myself.
"My pleasure," she smiles still. "I was planning on taking you shopping for some new clothes and things with Rydel. Sound good?"
"Yea," I nod, a small smile spreading across my lips. Mom walks out of my room, leaving the door cracked.
I lay on my bed, staring up at the ceiling. Those butterflies I felt... What was that supposed to mean? Now I feel them again.
What's this supposed to mean?
