Myles comes out of surgery first. He's in a coma, but the doctors say he should make a full recovery.
My father comes out of surgery after him. He's in a coma too. A different type of coma ... one you don't wake up from.
"I'm so sorry Ms Nolet." The doctor starts. "Your father took a huge hit to the head in the accident. We tried to save him, but he has suffered irreversible loss of all functions to the brain."
"What are you trying to tell me?" I ask them impatiently.
"Your father is brain dead, Ms Nolet." He says. "The machines are the only thing keeping him alive right now. But those machines can't stay on forever. I'm so sorry."
No no no no no. This can't be happening, I can't lose him. He's all I have left. First mother then my sister now my dad.
