lynn

"Alright, I'll have those two waters right out for you." I smiled

As I walked passed the desk to report my table's order to the kitchen, Diane stopped me on the way to catch my attention. "Hey, Lynn."

I paused in my route and turned to her, "Yeah?"

Diane was holding the phone, handing it to me, "It's for you."

She handed me the telephone and before I spoke to the other line I asked Diane, "Who is it?"

"A 'Sodapop Curtis', I was told." She replied before walking away

I held the phone to my ear and responded, "Lynn Marston speaking."

"Hey, Lynn, it's Soda..."

Sodapop sounded upset, stressed. Something was wrong. "What's going on?"

"I'm here at the police station...reporting as an eyewitness to a fight that broke out in front of the DX." he replied

"Is everything alright?" I furrowed my eyebrows

"Well...Gabe's fine, he's with Darry at the hospital. Along with the rest of the gang. Steve is here with me, we're going there right after." Soda paused and sighed, "Something happened to Dally."

My heart sped up, "What happened?"

I heard Sodapop take a deep breath from the other side of the landline, "The fight at the DX lead to a guy pulling a gun. Dally happened to be in the range of the shot..."

I gasped and threw a hand over my mouth before Soda even finished his sentence. He concluded, "Dal isn't doing too well. Last I saw he was unconscious on the sidewalk, then loaded into an ambulance. I'm so sorry Lynn...the gang's there and we will be soon."

I broke into tears, I felt like I just got punched in the gut with a spiked fist. I felt my knees get weak, I grabbed onto the desk counter to keep myself from collapsing. I couldn't speak, I knew if I tried I'd end up completely melting down in the process. I wanted to scream and crumble but I couldn't, my breathing was almost too fast and so was my heart. I was focusing on nothing but trying to calm myself down before I lost it in front of everyone. Since it went silent for a little bit Sodapop figured I wouldn't be answering anytime soon, I heard him sigh on the other end. "I'm sorry, Lynn, but I have to go. I'll talk to you soon."

The line went dead and I slammed the phone down then ran to grab my things. Tear after tear was trickling down my face, I tore off my apron and forcefully shoved it into Diane's chest as she tried to ask me what happened. I grabbed my bag and rushed to leave, of course since Diane is the inconsiderate bitch that she is, had the nerve to shout at me, "Lynn, what the hell!?"
