"progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything." - George Bernard Shaw

This rickety old house has had about enough of being worn down and bland. Me and Dallas decided to buy some new furniture and paint, making this house feel more like home.
Gabe picked out the color for his room, bright blue. So as we were told, me and Dallas went to paint the bedroom bright blue. We also got a white dresser to put his clothes in and a chest to put his toys. Me and Dallas compromised on our room being red because Dallas said no to lilac and I said no to shit brown. The bathroom is evergreen and the rest of the house is white, except for the kitchen. The kitchen will be soft yellow, and is the last room in the house that needs painting. And that's what me and Dallas are doing today.
Sodapop's watching Gabe, we don't want him breathing in the paint fumes while we're working so Sodapop volunteered to babysit. Sodapop's gonna be a great dad one day.
Dallas popped open the paint can and I put Ricky Nelson on the record player. He's my favorite artist, I love his voice. One of my favorites - Travelin' Man - came on and I started singing along, swaying to the music.
Dal looked over at me with this smile on his face, just watching as I subtly swayed. He didn't say anything, just stared. I blushed and smiled back, "What?"
"I just," he paused, "Didn't know I could fall in love with you more."
I blushed and giggled a bit, Dal chuckled and kissed me on the cheek, "You should sing more, gorgeous."
I laughed, "I'm not a singer."
"Your voice says otherwise." Dal replied
I rolled my eyes and picked up a paint roller. The diamond resting on my ring finger caught my eye, oh how just a little object can make me smile. I thought Dal stole it, but then he pointed out that it was custom made. The diamond was two different colors split down the middle; a bright sky blue on the right, and on a left a rich violet. Dallas proposed to me not too long ago, saying that it might be easier for him to be Gabe's dad if his parents were married. Of course I said yes.
It's next month. No big wedding, it's just a get together in the park. I actually mailed my family for once, saying if they want to come then they can. Dallas did the same. Johnny's the designated best man, and after a long phone call with my older sister in Maryland we made her the maid of honor. And, the only bridesmaid.
Everything's coming together, its beautiful. I returned to reality from zoning out and started painting the wall. I loved the color, I can't wait for this house to be lively. I've always appreciated bright and unique colors.
I was caught off guard by the sharp contact of a hand on my left ass cheek. I squealed and jumped, Dal chuckled and bit his lip. I scrunched my nose and playfully shoved him, he laughed and I did too. "Couldn't resist." He replied
I reached over and slapped him even harder on his ass and he laughed as he rubbed the pain. I snickered and mocked him, "Couldn't resist."
He gave me those devilish eyes and snaked an arm around my waist, "Get your sexy ass over here."
We french kissed hard for a long moment, before I creeped my paint roller up and pulled away so I can roll it across his face. The yellow paint made blotchy line down his shocked face and his jaw dropped at the unexpected face painting. I laugh and bent down to get more paint, but Dal beat me to it and grabbed the paint can. He cupped his hands with the paint and threw it at me, splattering over the plain white shirt I was wearing. His loss, I stole it from him.
I blocked my face and none landed on my skin, the room filled with laughter as a paint fight soon broke out. It was mainly us splattering the yellow in each other's direction but it was all fun and games. "We're going to have to buy more paint." I laughed
"So be it." he shrugged
I tried to doge the paint flying at me, but slipped in the process. Dallas caught my fall, holding my torso close to his and our faces inches apart. We took a moment to just catch our breath, my ears recognized Teenager's Romance playing in the background.
Dallas gazed up my down my body for a moment, then he got more serious. "Hey, Calico?"
"Yeah, Texas?" I replied, intertwining my fingers behind his neck
"I've been thinking about something recently."
I raised my eyebrows, "Oh yeah?"
"Yeah." He nodded
"What would that be?" I asked as I started combing my yellow fingers through his partially yellow hair
He hesitated then looked me in the eyes. "How do you feel about maybe...more kids?"
I looked into his eyes again and I'm not going to lie, the question shocked me. I squinted, "Is that an innuendo?"
He noticed what I meant and laughed a bit, shrugging. "Yes and no."
I tilted my head and thought about it. Then smiled and realized the question was an easy one. "It sounds nice."
