"the most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother." - Theodore Hesburgh

lynn

Gabe's smile lit up the whole room as me and the gang sang happy birthday to the now 2 year old. The song finished and I instructed, "Blow out the candle!"

Gabe took a big huff of air and successfully blew out both candles. I grabbed them off the cake and Gabe didn't hesitate to dig into the chocolate. He was learning too much from the boys.

"Save some for us!" Two-Bit said

Darry came around the corner with a whole different, bigger cake. "No Two, that one's Gabe's. I made this one for us."

Darry sliced the cake like a civilized human being but of course the rest didn't follow in suit with eating it. I chuckled, Dallas slipped an arm around my waist and kissed my neck. I blushed, "Want some cake, babe?"

Dallas slapped my ass loud enough for me to squeal and others to snicker, "I can have plenty of that at home." I playfully whacked him in the arm and he laughed, kissing my neck again. "Cal, I wanted to talk to you about something."

I grew uneasy, "About what?"

"Let's step into the kitchen." He suggested

I followed Dal and told no one in particular, "Watch Gabe, make sure he doesn't choke."

Two-Bit remarked, "Ooooo Gabe's about to have a little brother."

"If you two get my counters dirty that's your responsibility to bleach it." Darry added. I gave Two-Bit a glare before I followed Dallas into the kitchen, jeez these guys are vulgar.

We entered the kitchen and I sat on the counter, Dallas putting his hands on my waist. "What's going on?" I asked

"I got Gabe a present, but I wanted to verify it with you first." Dal said

He grabbed something out of his back pocket and to my surprise it was folded up papers. I sensed his anxiety, it think it was spreading to me. He handed me the papers and I unfolded them, my eyes grazing the papers. "What's this?"

"Adoption papers."

I looked up from the paper and Dallas was looking back at me with a nervous yet excited smile. My heart could've stopped that moment. My eyes widened and I was speechless, he bit his lip and had his thumbs in his front pockets. His eyes however didn't leave mine, "Something happened while I was in that coma and I can't quite explain it, but it made me think about this decision and I realized not going through with it would just be a dumb idea."
