Chapter 10
"Cole, Carson! Let's go!" Violet screamed as we watched them play football.
In fact, everyone was screaming and I was just watching. I didn't understand anything anybody was talking about. I wasn't into this kind of stuff. Sports wasn't something I wanted to watch or talk about. Especially not about my school's sports team. However, my best friends were on the team and I guess Wyatt, so I had to be here. Anything they wanted to do, then I was here to support them.
Half time came and everyone headed down to the concession stands. As for me, I waited over at the gate to see if Carson would come by. I haven't seen him play in awhile, so I wanted to congratulate him on being pretty decent. Definitely not as good as he used to be, but I didn't want to be bias.
Time was ticking and I didn't see Carson anywhere. What was he doing? Usually, he would come see me during half time for a couple minutes. He wasn't showing up though and I wasn't too thrilled about that. How was he going to take me somewhere and not show up to even talk to me? This was so uncool man!
Half time was over and all the players were back on the field. Of course I stayed and watched the game because I knew I would see him afterwards. He promised me he'd take me out somewhere special that he had planned. Of course, he wouldn't break that promise right? He couldn't break a promise to me. Not this one, I was looking forward to this all week. Being alone with Carson was all I wanted and this time it would be a date.
The game was finally over. Violet was really into the game too. I had no idea she was so into football like she was. Everything that happened she knew. She was calling out things I had no idea what they meant. If I ever want to get schooled on football I was going to go to her.
"That was such a good game. They looked good out there." Violet complimented them as we walked to the front of the school.
I shrugged. "Yeah, it was alright." I was kind of annoyed. I felt like I was ignored by Carson and it kind of hurt.
We came to a stop and were now standing in front of the school. A bunch of football players came walking out the doors and none of them were Carson. When he asked to take me out, I didn't agree to be waiting this long. Was this his idea of special?
As we were waiting, Cole came up behind us and decided to pay us a nice visit. At least one of them were coming to see us.
"Hey, my ladies, how are you?" He asked us as he hugged me and hugged Violet.
I smiled so it wouldn't seem like I wasn't so bothered. "Hey, Cole, nice job out there." I said with little excitement in my voice.
"Yeah, it was great." Violet added. "Now come on, I want to go watch that movie." She tugged at Cole's shirt.
He chuckled. "Alright, alright." He draped his arm around her.
Great, Violet was going to go with Cole and have a great time and I was going to be stuck waiting around on Carson. This wasn't fair, but I was happy that she was getting some time with Cole. She deserved it. She's waited all this time for him to return and I was happy that he was giving her the time of day. I got that time of day, but when it came to him keeping a promise, he sucked at that. Plus, it was pretty cold out here.
I looked back at the door and didn't see anyone coming out anymore. Everyone was pretty much in their cars getting ready to leave. I wasn't going to give up hope though. He said he was going to take me somewhere special with my ice cream, then I was going to believe him. He would never lie to me.
"Hey, Sav, you need a ride home?" Cole asked me with a smile on his face.
I shook my head. "No, I'll wait on, Carson." I said getting impatience. What was taking him so long?
"Well, text me if you need me. I'll come as quick as I can." We said our goodbyes and I stayed waiting on Carson.
I don't know what was going on with him. He would always show up on time to see me no matter where we were. There was no way he was going to stand me up like this. He specifically told me to come to the game because he was going to take me out somewhere. Somewhere I was looking forward to and been waiting on for years. I probably got ahead of myself with this one, but he shouldn't have promised me or been doing all the things he's been doing since he's been back. What would be the purpose in all of that if he was just going to stand me up? Uh, nothing!
I waited 15 more minutes and after that I gave up. He clearly wasn't coming. The parking lot was empty and I was furious. I can't believe he just did this to me. After he told me he wasn't going to break another promise and all the moments that we've shared this past week, he was just going to give this up. For what? This was supposed to be important for both of us. This was the next step in our relationship and he blew it. The disappointment I felt quickly turned into sadness and I was freezing cold.
Sitting down on the curbside, I pulled out my phone to text Cole, but before I could I heard a horn honk at me. Instantly, I got happy, but it wasn't who I thought it was.
"What are you doing out here? It's freezing." Wyatt called out to me with a smile rolling down the window.
I stood up with a sad expression on my face and his smile dropped. "Can I please get in?" My voice was cracking and I felt myself on the verge of tears.
He unlocked the car door and I got in, but I wasn't very happy. I should have been since I got to be in the Mustang again, but I wasn't. Carson kind of just broke my heart without even knowing it. He didn't even text me to tell me we needed to reschedule. I know I'm not the greatest person to take on a date, but to be stood up by Carson wasn't the best feeling in the world.
I closed the door and sighed with disappointment. Wyatt put the car in park and looked at me worried. He even turned the heat up which was also nice too.
He put the car in park and grabbed my hand. I had to admit, it sent a little chill down my spine. He was just so cute.
"What's bothering you, Savannah?" He asked me rubbing his thumb on the top of my hand.
I debated if I wanted to tell him. It would be awkward and I'm talking about another guy to him. If he did like me, it would probably crush his spirits if I were to bring up Carson. I'm sure he knows how long we've been in talks. They play on the same football team and all. Then again, Carson stood me up and I couldn't vent to him since he was nowhere to be found. Wyatt was my lifesaver right now.
I sighed and turned to him. "I, um, got stood up kind of." It was hard to admit because nobody wants to be left in the dust. That's like the most embarrassing thing on the planet.
"What?" He asked confused.
"Carson. We we're supposed to go out on a date and he stood me up. I don't know where he is." I said lifeless. There was nothing I wanted more than to kick him in his balls, but at the same time I was sad.
He was silent for a second and then sighed. "That sucks." Was all he could say to me. It was true though it sucked.
Next thing I know, he was starting the car back up and I looked at him confused. Not that I didn't want to go for a ride in this cool ass car, I was miserable and wanted to go home. He doesn't know what its like for the love of your life to betray you like you weren't anything to them. It broke my heart, but I would never let him know that.
We were off and I put my seat belt on before he started speeding. I had no idea where he was taking me, but I wasn't going to knock it. I was supposed to be out anyway. If Carson wasn't going to enjoy some time with me, then I would go out and enjoy sometime with Wyatt. At least he seemed like he wanted to be around me. He didn't seem like the type to stand me up either. Although, he was kind of a rebound date, I still appreciated him. He was doing more for me than Carson was at the moment. Let's hope I don't get too carried away.
