Next was Finnick's turn. Aurora, as well as the others, didn't think he'd have to try very hard to gain the sympathy of the audience. He was already adored by everyone. His looks captivated the men and women of the Capitol, he was sure to get sponsors easily.
"Finnick, I understand that you have a message for somebody out there, a special somebody." Caesar did his signature laugh as women from the crowd yelled at the top of their lungs, trying to get Finnick's attention. Aurora couldn't help but chuckle at their desperation for him to notice them.
Finnick smirked, glancing at the audience in reply. Aurora raised her brows, interested in what the boy had to say.
"Can we hear it?" Caesar said, excited about what he had to say.
Finnick stared into the camera, his smirk turning into a serious face. Aurora could imagine all the women falling to the floor unconsciously by the way he stared.
"My love, you have my heart, for all eternity. And uh, if... if I die in that arena, my last thought will be of your lips." He stared into the camera, sorrowfully, the crowd cheering loudly.
Some believed the message was directed toward them, whilst most others assumed it was directed to none other than his own district partner, Aurora Evans. Aurora knew it was for her, a smirk growing onto her face as she heard the crowd cheer. It was all part of a plan, one that seemed to be working.
"How truly devastating. But, I must ask on behalf of everyone watching. Was that touching message directed to another tribute, and more importantly, your tribute partner?" Finnick looked down for a moment, playing his part, listening to the cheers of the crowd.
"Yes, it is, Caesar." The crowd began to cheer louder than ever. Their assumptions were confirmed. He had pulled a Peeta Mellark and had found success. Nothing worked better than two lovers being sent into the arena, just to kill one another.
As much as Aurora could care to admit, she felt a flutter inside of her. Maybe it was just his charm, or the fact she'd been put on the spotlight, but nonetheless the feeling was there. Just the idea of Finnick confessing his love for her made her feel somewhat relieved of a pressure on her shoulders. The thought of them being together had never occurred to her, considering she had always dismissed it. They had always been labeled as best friends, nothing more, nothing less. So this new "relationship" they had portrayed gave her a new perspective.
Aurora felt a funny feeling in her gut. This was going to work, it had to. Everyone was already riled up, and with the help of the other tributes, the games were for sure going to get canceled. A sense of hope had plagued over, a feeling of bliss emerging at the thought she'd return home, alive. She believed the torture was finally going to end, but little did she know, it was only the beginning.
Finnick and Aurora hadn't failed to intrigue the audience with their love story. How could it not have worked? The two favorites of the Capitol in a kindling romance, it was perfect. Their chemistry was riveting, helping to fuel the fire.
