Chapter 18
Tala woke up. It took her a moment to realize she was in the emergency room. It was the last place she wanted to be in.
“Hey” Jake greeted as he gently squeezed her hand.
“I’ll settle the bill so we can leave this place” she said as she got up. Jake stopped her.
“Just rest. I’ll settle the bill later” he replied. “This happens a lot?” he asked. He looked pretty worried.
“Not sure. I don’t count” she answered. “Do you want me to keep track? I can keep a tally for you” she joked.
“Tala for crying out loud you just had a seizure”
“So?’ she asked.
“What’s wrong with you?” he angrily asked.
“What’s wrong with you?” she asked back. “I told you not to stick around. If you can’t deal with one seizure you’ll definitely develop a heart condition by the time I get worse” she scoffed.
“You’re parents are on their way” he said to change the topic.
“Great!” she exclaimed.
“Can you stop being so damn sarcastic?” he asked.
“Or else what?” she asked.
“You’re impossible Tala” he was exasperated.

Tala was mad, frustrated and depressed. She was in her room in her parent’s house. She asked her nurse to get her a glass of cranberry juice, which she’s pretty sure they don’t have. She needed an outlet for all the things that she was feeling so she quickly went to her bathroom. She got her stash. She grabbed the alcohol and poured it on her arms. Scars, which were days old, were still visible. She remembered how upset Jake was with her. She was pushing him away because she was scared. Yes, she now admits that. She wanted a forever with him but that was like finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow or perhaps a unicorn. She made her first cut. It sting but she craved for more. She made a few cuts. She felt a rush. Endorphins or dopamine or whatever sh*t kicked. She liked that feeling. She felt in control. She watched her wound bleed. She wiped it with a tissue. It continued to bleed. She was going to make another cut when she heard her nurse knocking on her door. After a few seconds the door swung ajar. Her nurse sighed in frustration.
