You walked with the other Hufflepuffs. The feast was delicious and everyone was very cheery, however unfortunately for you, you had yet to make friends in your house so had spent the feast talking to no one.

Now was time for everyone to head to their common rooms. The first years were sent out first and told to follow their perfects. You couldn't really see them so simply followed the crowd.

You had seen Gryffindor and Ravenclaw head upwards whereas the Slytherins all went out and down. The Hufflepuffs however did not go through the main doors to exit. Instead they went towards the kitchens.

The smell in the kitchen made your mouth water. Despite having eaten loads, it made you desperate for more food. You could smell everything from a full English to a Sunday roast. The smell of hot chocolate and coffee cake stuck out to you the most.

As you walked through the kitchen, you noticed several little things shuffling about. They each had very big ears paired with eyes big enough to match. They barely came up to your knees and kept their heads down.
One bumped into your leg.

"Sorry miss" it muttered.

"Oh no it's fine sir" you replied.

The little thing stopped and nearly dropped the thing it was carrying.

"Sir?" It said in disbelief. "Why thank you miss, I don't believe a house elf has ever been called a sir"

"Well you best get used to it" you said with a kind smile.

The house elf stared at you in amazement for a moment before running off to continue what it was doing.

You turned you attention back to the group, which had suddenly stopped in front of some large barrels.

"Now" the prefect began. "To enter the common room, you have to give the right password, like so"

The prefect then went on to tap the barrel, two from the bottom in the middle of the second row. He tapped it in some sort of rhythm.

"Remember to tap this specific barrel to the tune of Helga Hufflepuff" he explained

You took careful note of everything he said. To your side, a few first years whispered to each other, clearly confused. The prefect took note of this.

"Don't worry if you forget, you can always ask one of the older years, or me, to help you" he said with a warm smile.

You couldn't help but smile back.

As you all filed into the common room and made your way to the dorm, you thought it'd be best to make some friends.

Before you entered the dorm, you turned to a quiet boy behind you. He had a kind face and wore a cap over a mesh of black hair.

"Hi" you said "I'm Y/N"

The boy took a step back, startled by how you'd spoken to him.

"Oh, sorry." You said sheepishly, withdrawing your hand.

"No no it's okay" the boy said gesturing for you to come back. I'm tadashi." He said holding out his hand.

You shook it warily.

"I was just shocked that you spoke to me that's all" he said quickly "not that it's a bad thing" he added.

You just nodded at his comment.

"I'm just new to all this" he continued "I don't know anyone and didn't expect people to want to know me just yet"

You stifled a laugh."honestly it's fine, don't worry" you said. You noticed that he was still shaking your hand so you awkwardly wriggled it out of his grasp.
