You tapped your foot impatiently near the edge of the forbidden forest. Hiccup had sent you a letters telling you to meet him here. You didn't mind being here but you were slightly concerned that he asked you to come out at midnight. Every breath you took and step you made echoed through the empty castle as you ran down the corridor. You were desperate not to attract the attention of any proffesors, and certain not Filch.

After waiting for some time, you pulled your cloak tighter around you. You debated whether to go back in, hiccup was late and you weren't sure if he'd even turn up. But, just as you decided to turn back to the castle, you heard footsteps behind you.

"Sorry I'm late" hiccup panted, breathless.

You gaped at him. He hasn't come from the castle, but from the forest itself. And he took no time turning to go back in

"Come on" he said, gesturing forwards.

"But that's the forbidden forest" you whispered sharply. "emphasis on forbidden"

"It'll be fine don't worry" hiccup laughed, he moved back towards you and grabbed your hand, leading you deeper into the forest.

"Hiccup" you said, pushing branches out of your way "where are we going?"

"Hang on, we're almost.... Here!"

You stared in awe at the place he'd taken you. It was a beautiful cove, with green mossy walls and a clear lake in the middle. You followed wordlessly as hiccup made his way down. You continued to take in the scenery but your gaze was broken when hiccup stared shouting.

"Toothless!"

You ran over to him "hiccup be quiet, you'll get us caught"

"Toothless!" He called out, ignoring you.

Your pleas were cut short when you heard a big ruffling noise coming your way. You stepped back and all of a sudden a great big dragon came running your way.

You screamed at the sight of the wind black beast and fell to the ground.

"SSH!" Hiccup said to you, holding the dragon back. "you're scaring him"

"I'm scaring him?"

Hiccup didn't reply but turned back to the dragon. He whispered to it until it calmed down.

You took a moment to get your breath back and calm down. "Who is him?" You asked, slightly panicked still.

"Y/N meet toothless" hiccup said gesturing between you and the dragon. "toothless meet Y/N"

You swallowed and nodded, but didn't dare move any closer. "are you mad? If the proffesors find out about this..." You trailed off.

"They won't" hiccup said sternly. He looked at you with pleading eyes "They won't" he repeated softly, reassuring you and himself.

You sighed reluctantly and pushed yourself to your feet. Your breathing came unsteadily as you watched the dragon under hiccups arms.

Hiccup turned to the dragon and spoke quietly to it. The dragon growled in response. What hiccup did next made your knees weak.

"Hiccup" you whispered horrified "What the bloody hell's are you doing?!?"

"Riding a dragon" he announced triumphantly from on top of the dragon.

"But there's never been a dragon rider in the history of magic!"

"Well obviously that fact is wrong cause I'm pretty sure I'm about to ride a dragon. For the second time might I add"

"Second time??" Your mouth dropped. "You're a dead man Hiccup Haddock" And with that, you turned on your heel and stormed off back to the castle.

You barely got a few feet ahead when a black blue bounded in front of you. The dragons green eyes pierced yours. Your heart felt like it'd stopped beating. You turned your head towards hiccup.

"Please" he said, using a hand out to you. "Trust me"

You didn't say a word. You stated at his hand for a moment, then made your decision. You placed your hand on his as he helped you sit behind him on the dragon. You took a deep breath before telling him "At the end of this I'll either hate you or love you" Hiccup just laughed

"Okay toothless, nice and slow now bud" he told his dragon. Toothless. He'd named his dragon. You shook your head in disbelief.

The dragon unfolded its wings as it prepared to take flight. "see?" Hiccup said turning to you "nothing to be worried about" but he spoke too soon.

The dragon lurched upwards, flying impossibly fast and impossibly high. You grabbed on to hiccup, your legs bouncing up, as you tried to stop yourself from falling up. You screamed the whole way. Hiccup however looked, almost, annoyed and disappointed.

"Great" he said. "We need her to like us!" He shouted angrily at the dragon.

Your vision blurred as you struggled to look around you. Everything was a mess of colours and the wind stung your eyes. Your head sunk backwards as you continued to climb high until at one point, the dragon suddenly changed direction. Your neck ached as your head was thrown forwards. You were now nearly falling into hiccup. You moved your hands to hold on behind you.

"Thanks for nothing, you useless reptile" Hiccup said almost apathetically

The dragon flew closer and closer to the lake, you expected it to slow down but it didn't. It submerged you both under the water. It went up and down up and down. You struggled to take a breath in between the small breaks of air. In front of you, hiccup struggled to say something to his dragon.

The dragon stopped teasing the water and eventually flew slowly and evenly. The two of you took a moment to catch your breath as you took in your surroundings.

Pink clouds envelopes you. They looked like candyfloss in the sky. It was beautiful. You reached out a hand upwards and touched the soft clouds. They slipped through your fingers like silk. You couldn't believe how pretty everything looked, it took your breath away.

Toothless tilted upwards and took you through the clouds. For a moment, the rosy tint made it seem that you were seeing the world through some sort of filter. It looked like a while new world. But then, you entered a darker part of the sky.

The sky wasn't entirely black, it was more of a dark blue. It was as if a blue blanket had been thrown onto of you and the stars were pierced holes in it, letting light through. The stars twinkled and you'd never seen something so magnificent. You could see constellations everywhere. The sky had never seemed so clear.

For a brief moment, you cursed the fact that you were in Scotland for if you were further north, you might've seen the northern lights.

You never broke away from the fascinating scene around you and then the castle came into view. Seeing Hogwarts from below was nothing like seeing it from above. It's tall towers pierced the night sky, it was huge and magnificently so. You leaned closer to hiccup and wrapped your arms around him as a sense of comfort washed over you.

You heard Hiccup inhale sharply. "so" he said "At the end of it, do you hate me or love me?"

You laughed, staring in wonder at everything around you. "a bit of both"
