second semester of my final year of college has been kicking my butt - i'm so sorry for not updating more!! enjoy this muggle au that i've had floating around in my head for awhile :)
"Fuck, Remus. Oh god, don't stop -" Slender fingers ran erratically through Remus's hair as the speaker struggled to get his words out. Remus looked up at the gorgeous man above him, sucking even harder and eliciting moans that reverberated sinfully off the tiled bathroom walls...
"Um...excuse me?"
Remus jumped away from the counter he was leaning on, banging his elbow on the book display he was supposed to be setting up. His face burned as he turned to face the girl who had approached him. "Yes, how can I help you?" he said.
"Can you point me to the fantasy section, please? I've been looking all over but I can't find it."
"Of course," Remus replied. He straightened up some of the novels that had been knocked askew when the girl first approached him. "Follow me."
Once he got the girl to the books she was looking for, he ducked behind a tall shelf and buried his head in his hands. That was the third time today that a customer had caught him while he was thinking about yesterday's unexpected hookup. He couldn't stop looping the scene in his head, but he also couldn't understand why. Either the experience was so good that it warranted disregarding his work to spend time thinking about it, or Remus needed to get laid more often.
If we're being honest, both explanations are probably true.
"What is it this time? Another favorite character get killed off by an evil author?"
Remus didn't bother looking up at this snarky interrupter. "Ha ha, very funny, Miss I-Cried-for-a-Week-When-Zoe-Nightshade-Died."
"That was emotional and you know it." Remus felt her arm brush his as she sat down next to him. He heard a straw squeak against a cup lid, and glanced over to see that his red-headed best friend was drinking out of a Florian Fortesque's smoothie cup.
"Really, Lily? Was that free from your favorite smoothie maker?"
Lily rolled her eyes. "Don't read into it, Remus. James gave it to me in exchange for some cookies from our store. We make trades like that all the time, which you'd know if you had a job in the food court like everyone else."
"Hey, it's not my fault I'm more bookish than you!"
Lily punched his arm gently and laughed. They had both been offered a position at the bookstore, but Lily ended up declining hers and taking a job at Kowalski's, the mall's bakery, instead. She told Remus her decision had been based on pay and hours; he thought it had a lot more to do with the well-muscled, tousle-haired manager at the smoothie bar next door.
"Enough about where and who I get my lunch from. What's going on with you, really? You seem...off."
Remus looked back down at his hands. "Well, you know James's friend? The one who hangs around all the time?"
"Sirius?" Lily fought the urge to smile when Remus nodded, a blush and a little smile of his own appearing on his face. "Yeah, of course. He usually comes by the bakery when he's done bugging James. He asks about you sometimes, you know. Why?"
Before Remus could start to stumble through an explanation of yesterday's events, the store phone rang. "Saved by the bell," he muttered as he hurried to answer it. "Flourish and Blott's Books, this is Remus, how can I help you today?"
"Remus!" exclaimed the caller. Remus instantly felt his face heat up and his stomach fill with butterflies. He knew that voice.
"Hi, Sirius," he said quietly. "Why are you calling me at work?"
