I put my cigarette up to my mouth, breathe it in slowly and then breathe out in a sigh.
"What's wrong, Gabs?"
I turn to face my girlfriend, Tasha. "My father's coming over today. I can't go back until he's gone." I drop the cigarette and quench it with my foot.
"Fuck. Why's he over?"
"He's engaged. Came over to introduce her. Couldn't be arsed meeting her."
"Why don't I go over with you?"
I scoff. "Yeah, wouldn't it be great to go over to my homophobic as shit brother and father with my girlfriend who's my brothers ex. Nothing to do with you, its them."
She chuckles. "I suppose that's true. Why don't we get another hot chocolate and then we can head to my place? We can go see BoRhap again if you want. Its the last screening at the Omniplex."
I smile at her. "OK, as long as you promise to not drool over Ben Hardy again."
She laughs. "OK, I promise, love."
I chuckle and then kiss her softly. We separate, and just as we head back into Spar, my phone rings.
"Who is it?", Tasha asks.
"Anne. Why don't you be making your hot chocolate and I'll follow you in a second?"
"Kk."
I answer the call. "Is everything OK?"
"Yeah, everything's fine. I was just wondering if you and the girls are around town."
"Uh, its just me and Tash and we're going to see Bohemian Rhapsody at half 7. What's up?"
"We're just coming back from Clonmel and my sister is watching Gemma's brother so we might just meet you two for a few minutes."
"What's wrong with her brother?"
"Uh, sports injury."
"Jesus, hope he's OK soon. Would you two like to come to the cinema with us?"
"That'd be great! Thanks! We'll be in town in a few more minutes. Where will we meet ye?"
"We're at Spar right now so we won't move."
"Perfect. See you then."
"Kk."
I put my phone in my pocket and follow Tasha inside.
"Is everything OK?", she asks as she stirs the drink.
"I don't know. Can we take them to the movie with us?"
"OK. That's no problem. When'll they be in town?"
"Shortly."
"OK, perfect."
I move over to the coffee machine and make my hot chocolate. We then go over to pay and we continue chatting until a small red car pulls up and Gemma and Anne jump out. They look exhausted.
"Hey, girls.", they say.
"Hi. Is everything OK?", Tasha asks.
"Yeah. Just tired.", Gemma says, but I can tell she's lying. I decide to let it go though.
We then walk back to Tasha's house and we hang out for an hour before her mother drives us to the cinema.
I get to be with my girlfriend, hang out with my new friends and see BoRhap for the 10th time. Avoiding my father and brother has never been more fun.
