The Arising: Our Community

Chapter 19

"We need to go back, and try to see if there is any survivors" Hue said.

"No. We are going to keep driving down this road. We are not stopping for anyone" I said.

"What if Lyndi, Mabel and Frances all lived?" Hue said.

"I wouldn't care" I said.

"Well I care, and I care for my husband as well" Hue said.

I stopped the car on the side of the road.

"Get out" I said.

Hue didn't say anything.

"Get out!" I yelled.

Hue slowly got out of the car and watched us as we drove away. I stopped over the hill from where we left Hue. I turned the car around and drove back for Hue. I saw him down the road. He turned around and saw us coming back. I stepped on the pedal harder heading towards Hue. Hue started to run for it but he didn't have enough time. I ran over Hue and his body flew over the car. I stopped and got out. I walked up to his body and looked over him. He was still alive.

"I think you broke my back...." he said in pain.

I stood over him staring at him.

"You are going to die in hell! You fucking dick" Hue said.

I walked up to him and stomped on his head, over and over again. Until his head was completely crushed. I could see pieces of his brain flowing out with the blood. I spat on him and walked back to the car. I got on and turned back around heading back down the road.

"Where exactly are we going?" Finn said.

"I don't know. I guess we will just follow this road and see where it takes us" I said.

We drove past a few infected on the way. We just drove past them and continued on. We stopped at houses for food and water, then got back into our car and continued to drive following the same road. It began to become dark so we stopped at a small looking house. We both got out, and brought all of our food into the house. The house had a disgusting smell to it. I searched the house and found two dead elderly people lying on the ground, both with bullet shots in there heads. I saw the gun they used which was laying on the ground. I picked it up and held it in my hand.

I searched the rest of the room and found a hunting rifle, with ammo for both guns. I walked them over to the food we had and put them down on the table. Finn walked in with a bunch of cans of food and bottles of beer and water. He put them on the table as well. I grabbed a beer and opened it. I grabbed another beer and gave it to Finn. Finn opened the beer bottle straight away and started to drink it. I sat down drinking my beer looking around the house while Finn moved the couch in front of the front door, so no one would come in.

Finn sat on another seat drinking his beer.

"So where does this road lead us?" Finn asked.

"I think it goes to Renmark. That might be a good place for supplies" I said.

"How much longer till we get there?" Finn asked.

"Probably about two or three hours" I said.

I got up and went to look for a blanket. I found one and dragged it back to the couch. I put it over me.

"I'm going to sleep. We will leave early tomorrow" I said closing my eyes and falling asleep.

I woke up the next morning and saw Finn still asleep. I got up and packed all of our stuff into the car. I then walked up to Finn.

"Wake up were leaving" I said.

He woke up and quickly got up. We took the blankets with us and left the house. We continued to drive down the road. As we were driving we saw about ten people all carrying large logs of wood into a truck. We stopped the car and watched them for a while. Once their truck was full they drove off. I started the car and followed them keeping a safe distance away. They were driving pretty fast so it was hard to keep up to them, also insuring that they didn't see us. They were following the same road as us. Soon after a few hours they stopped at Renmark. I stopped the car close by.

From where we were I could see a bunch of people all working on a wall. It seemed like they were building a wall around Renmark. Maybe making a community.

"What should we do?" Finn asked.

"Let's introduce ourselves" I said.

I started the car and drove towards Renmark. People walked out in front of our car and I stopped the car. Finn and I got out with our hands up.

"Hello, my name is Zabi. This is my son Finn. We are wondering if we can join your community" I said.

"Well. If you can help with building the wall then you're in" the man said.

I walked up to them and shook his hand.

"What's your name?" I asked.

"Wilson" the man said.

I nodded and walked back to the car. I drove in and parked the car. The wall was no where near finished, and the gate wasn't even up yet. This community had a lot to go if they wanted to finish it.

"Follow me. I'll introduce you to our leader" Wilson said.

Finn and I both followed Wilson to the leader.

"Boss. This is Zabi and Finn" Wilson said.

The leader was an elderly man. Very elderly.

"Ah. Nice to meet you two. Look another young one" The leader said.

"I'm not that young I'm 17" Finn said.

"Well you're older then I thought. I'm Rufus by the way. Welcome to the Renmark Safe Zone He said.

"Thank you for having us" I said.
