Chapter 9

SAM

I woke up really early in the morning. I tried to fall asleep again but I couldn't. I stayed up looking up at the top bed, until the sun came out. As the sun came out I put on my holster and walked outside. I walked towards the guard tower and climbed to the top. Someone was there. He looked at me strangely.

"Are you next shift?" He asked.

"Sorry. No I'm not. I just came up here to get a better look over the wall" I said.

I realised he was a member of the army. He was one of the members who was drunk.

"Wait. You, I remember you. You beat the hell out of Finn. You're strong. What's your name again?" He asked.

"I'm Sam" I said as he pulled out another chair for me.

"I'm Owen. Nice to meet you" He said shaking my hand.

We looked out at the road.

"By the way. I don't get drunk normally that was just us boys having a little fun. Finns mostly drunk but we normally take our job seriously. So what are you doing up here?" Owen said.

"I don't belong here. I have a community out there. I came here to think, and to hope that they are still alive" I said.

"Same here. Before I was here I was at another community but we got attacked. I think a few of us got away. But I didn't see any of my friends after we were attacked. I found this place and they took me in. So your friends are still out there?" Owen said.

"They are. So is my pregnant wife and my daughter" I said.

"Wait really! Why aren't they letting you go back then. Or at least take them here?" Owen said.

"I don't know. Maybe this place isn't what it seems to be" I said.

"This place My be pretty fucked. But it's better then being out there" Owen said.

"I would rather be with my family then be in here" I said.

It went quite and awkward for a while. Owen started to tap on his chair as someone climbed up the guard tower.

"Here we go. Come on we gotta go. There's a horde we have to divert" Owen said handing the guard who was taking his shift a sniper.

We both climbed down the tower and walked over to the stables. We set up our horses and I quickly gave Nova an apple. I got onto her and we both rode over to the armoury. We grabbed more ammo and our weapons and head out of the gate. We rode quite far out making it to another small town called Greenfield. We got off our horses and waited about twenty minutes killing about three Walkers. Soon the others made it. Brooklyn rode next to me and got off her horse.

"Woke up early" She said.

"Yeah" I nodded holding her horse steady as she got off.

"Where's Finn?" Owen asked.

"Not here. Let's just get started. Ok Sam I'll tell you a bit about the crew. This over here is Owen" Wilson said.

"We've meet" Owen said quickly interrupting him.

"Oh. Well this over here is Chelsea, she's very good with the spear so she's got your back, this is Ben, he uses a massive knife and thinks he's the crocodile hunter" Wilson said.
