Chapter 28

GABRIELLA
52 DAYS BEFORE

"Megan! Come on! You're all I've got! Please... Megan? No" Hunter said as Megan stopped moving and making noise.

I quickly ran over to them.

"Quick we need to get to cover there could be more of them coming for us" I said.

Hunter picked up Megan's body and we both ran for it across the Oval. We hid in the players locker room. Hunter was over Megan who looked dead. I saw her check her pulse and she instantly went from being sad to surprised.

"She's alive!" Hunter yelled.

"She is" I said quickly running over.

"What do we do?" Hunter asked.

"We need to stop the bleeding. I can try to run and get supplies from the infirmary" I said.

Hunter took off her shirt and put pressure onto Megan's wound. I quickly got up and walked outside. I didn't see anyone. So I ran for it. I got to the infirmary and grabbed pain killers, stitching equipment and some antiseptic ointment. I quickly ran back. Hunter was still keeping pressure on her wound.

"Ok let go" I said.

Hunter quickly let go as I rubbed some antiseptic ointment over the wound. I then took out the stitching and slowly pricked it into her skin. Hunter looked away crying into her hands. I did two stitches on the wound. It looked like I had to do at least 13 to get it fully stitched up. Soo I finished and I quickly bound it up with some bandages. I then opened Megan's mouth and put a painkiller tablet into it. I put a little bit of water into her mouth and Megan swallowed it. I checked her pulse.

"She's stable" I said.

Hunter turned around and looked at Megan.

"You're going to be fine baby" Hunter said holding her hand tightly.

Hunter looked up at me.

"How do you know all of this stuff?" Hunter asked.

"I had to do it on myself once. I guess I learned what to do and what not to do. It was pretty simple" I said.

"Thank you" Hunter said.

Megan opened her eyes.

"Daddy? Is dad back?" Megan said.

Hunter stared into Megan's eyes.

"He's back baby. He just got here, just get some rest" Hunter said lying to Megan.

Megan closed her eyes and fell asleep.

38 DAYS LATER

I walked outside looking out at the sunrise. I could feel the symptoms of me being pregnant. I knew Anastasia was working it out. I herd screams of pain. I saw Anastasia running over to me.

"Gabriella! Hunters having her baby right now!" Anastasia yelled at me.

I quickly raced towards the infirmary. Our doctor died during the attack against the Scavengers, so it was just Anastasia, Tyler, Luke and I all working together on this. I ran in and saw Hunter sweating a lot on the hospital bed.

"Shit" I said.

"How long were you like this?" Anastasia asked.

"Quite ... ahhh fuck! Quite a while" Hunter said.

"Shit. Ok I'm gonna need you to push, ok?" Anastasia said.

I ran over and grabbed Hunters hand. She started to push.

"Arghhh!" Hunter yelled.

She was in so much pain. All I could think about was what I would be like when I have my baby. Anastasia looked at me in concern.

"Do you have a name for the baby yet?" I asked.

"I'm thinking Sam" Hunter said.

I nodded and smiled.

"Ok, another push!" Anastasia said.

"Arghhh!" Hunter yelled in agony.

"Shit. Ok stop for now" Anastasia said lifting her hand up with blood all over it.

"What's wrong?" Hunter asked.

"Nothing" Anastasia said.

"Gabriella. Can we talk" Anastasia said standing up.

I smiled at Hunter and got up. I walked over to her.

"There's something wrong. I think we need to do a c-section" Anastasia said.

"But she would die!" I said.

"Well either they both die or the baby lives and she dies" Anastasia said.

"Shit. It should be her decision" I said.

Anastasia nodded and walked over to Hunter.

"Ok Hunter I have some bad news. You're gonna have to chose. We can either keep trying to push the baby out but that could kill the baby and also you, or we could do a c-section which would kill you and the baby would probably live. It's your choice" Anastasia said.

Hunter thought about it for a while. She then looked up.

"C-section, save the baby" Hunter said.

"Are you sure?" I asked.

"I'm sure. I just want to say goodbye to Megan first" Hunter said.

"Of course" I said.

I rushed to get Megan. I brought her back. Hunter rolled over to face Megan.

"Hey baby" Hunter said.

"What's going on?" Megan asked.

Hunter kisses Megan on her forehead.

"Argh!" Hunter yelled in pain.

Megan stepped back.

"Is she ok?" Megan asked.

"Shit were going to have to do this now" Anastasia said while Hunter was still screaming in pain.

Anastasia grabbed her knife and slowly walked up to her. She lifted her shirt up and put the knife against her stomach. I saw Hunter slowly turn her head towards Megan.

"I love you" Hunter said.

Anastasia started to cut at her stomach trying to miss the baby.

"Arghhhhhh!" Hunter yelled in pain.

Blood started to pour out as she cut deeper.

"No! You're killing her! Please stop!" Megan yelled.

Anastasia kept cutting into Hunters stomach. Soon she pulled the baby out from her stomach. It was crying. I looked at Hunter her eyes were open and she wasn't moving. I walked up to her and checked her pulse. She was dead. I hugged Megan who was crying. I watched Anastasia wrap a towel around the baby, and clean it. She looked up at me.

"It's a baby girl" Anastasia said.

I smiled while tears ran down my face. She sacrificed herself for the baby to live. She was an amazing girl. She would of been a great mother. I hugged Megan as she cried into my jacket.
