I woke up at around 8:30, and instantly wanted to go back to sleep. Today was not my day. I looked at my phone and checked the news, to of course find something that would make everything worse.
Take a look at the biggest crash on the A1 since 2003, that occurred on this day, 4 years ago.
I clicked on the article, and scrolled down to find the photos. A massive lorry going straight into the back of a car, killing the man in an instant, the car all messed up, before naming the victim as Andrew Reynolds. Dad. Really didn't need the news reminding me but okay!
I wasn't sure if anyone even knew that today was the four year anniversary, but I guessed that the article would be all over the news, so they'd find out soon. I hid back under the covers and tried to go back to sleep, but I couldn't.
I decided to get up and try to start the day as normal. I put on a pair of leggings and a T-shirt and socks, before putting on dad's zip up jacket. It finally wasn't way too big for me, so I could actually wear it outside the house. I'd worn it every year since he died, because mum did nothing with his clothes, so I took it. It's not like mum would notice if I took it or not, she wasn't with it. Her body was there, but her mind was somewhere completely different.
I heard everyone laughing and having fun downstairs, and it really hit me. I sat down on the windowsill on the stairs instead, until Mike saw me. He must've noticed my jumper, because his smile soon faded.
"Today?" he asked. I nodded.
"Four years. Feels like yesterday." I sighed.
"I'm sorry, Gracieboo." Mike said. "Do you fancy going out for a meal later?"
"I guess. Anything to take my mind off it." I said. At that point, I saw Tracy coming to the front door. She looked up at me sitting by the window and gave me a smile and a wave, to which I gave her a slight wave. As soon as she came inside, she came to talk to me, then realised that Mike was with me too.
"Morning!" she said.
"Morning, Trace," Mike said.
Tracy came up to me and stroked my shoulder. "Are you okay?" she asked. I nodded and smiled at her, just hoping I wouldn't cry, because I felt it coming. Mike and Tracy went into the living room to say good morning to everyone else, when they noticed the news.
TRACY'S POV
I went into the living room to say good morning to the kids, when I noticed a big crash on the news.
"Where's this happened?" I asked.
"It happened four years ago. Biggest crash on the A1, apparently," Toby said. I turned it up and listened to it, before I realised something big. Mike wrapped his arm around me while I watched.
Four years ago today, the crash that caused the instant death of Andrew Reynolds took place. The 32-year-old was instantly killed after a lorry crashed into the back of his car, causing massive disruption on the A1.
I looked at Mike in shock. I remembered seeing this on the news when it happened.
"Is he...?" I trembled. Mike nodded. I ran straight back to Gracie and gave her the biggest hug. She burst into tears in my arms and I kept her so close to me.
"It's okay," I said. "It's all going to be okay."
"I just want him back." she wept.
"I know." I said. I kissed her on the head and stroked her hair to calm her down. I felt absolutely terrible. I remembered how the situation made me feel back then when it first happened, and now knowing that Gracie was his daughter, made me feel even worse. I took Gracie to the quiet room to calm down.
