THREE DAYS LATER

Things had been great since our fun day out, until now.

"Gracie, can you come into the office please?" Gina asked. I left the living room, where I was playing with the girls, and followed Gina to the office.

"Am I in trouble?" I asked.

"Of course not, babes. We just need to talk to you." Gina replied. She opened the door and let me take a seat. Mike was typing up something on the computer. He didn't look very happy.

"What's going on?" I said.

"Gracie, I had a phone call from your mum's rehab centre this morning. She took an overdose a few days ago and died from it yesterday. I'm so sorry." Mike said.

"They tried her very best to save her, but the amount of drugs she took had really damaged her blood, and her body just couldn't keep fighting." Gina continued.

I took many deep breaths but couldn't seem to catch my breath. My heart started beating really fast and I started to shake. Gina sat next to me and wrapped her arm around me, trying to calm me down, but it wasn't working. Regardless of everything that happened, I still loved mum. She meant the world to me, even if I didn't want to see her.

"Is there a funeral?" I asked.

"I don't think anything is being arranged funeral wise, however they said they are burying her on Wednesday at the cemetery. She's being buried next to your dad." Gina replied.

I broke down at that point. The thought that both of my parents were now dead absolutely killed me. I just wanted them back. I wanted to be with them.

"I know, its devastating." Mike said.

"Can we go to the graves when she's buried?" I asked. I'd never been to dad's grave before, mum wouldn't let me go. But I do know where it is.

"Are you sure?" Mike asked. I nodded my head.

"Okay, well we will sort something out for Thursday." Mike replied.

Gina stroked my back and gave me a tissue, when Tracy walked in.

"Sorry, I would've knocked." She said. Then she noticed me crying.

"What's happened?" she asked in shock.

"We had a phone call this morning. Gracie's mum took an overdose the other day and passed away yesterday." Mike said sadly. I couldn't listen to them talk about it for any longer. I covered my face and cried even more.

"Right, Tracy can you take Gracie upstairs, while me and Gina talk to the kids." Mike said.

"Why do they need to know?" I asked.

"So that they're aware of the situation you're in, so they don't treat you badly." Gina explained. Tracy held out her hand and I took it. She opened the door and wrapped her arm around me, taking me up to my room.

MIKE'S POV

I hated telling Gracie. I really did. I left the office with Gina and went to the living room to talk to the kids.

"Guys, can we have a word please!" I shouted over their noise. They all sat and waited for me to explain.

"Gracie has had some bad news, so please be nice to her." Gina said.
