// chapter seven. //

The final bell rang and everyone shot up from their seat. I didn't. I had practice so I didn't have to rush to get on a bus or catch a ride with a friend so I took my time gathering my things. Standing once everything was put away I started walking towards the exit.

"Lucas?" Mrs. Lancaster said looking up from her papers.

"Yes ma'am?" I said turning to face her.

"Good job on last week's test. I know you are really worried about your grades this year. Let me just say you have nothing to worry about." She said giving me a smile.

"Thank you." I said as I turned to leave. This time I successfully made it to the now almost empty halls.

Once my locker was open I put the books I needed for homework in my backpack and grabbed my gym bag. Walking to the locker room I heard whispering. Normally I'm not one to care about gossip but I thought I recognized one of the voices.

Peering around the corner I saw Cason and Anna having a rather animated conversation. I couldn't make out what they were saying but Anna looked pretty mad. Oh shit did she find out about the game? No Cason would never let that happen his brother, the guy that practically invented the game, would kill him.

Whatever they were talking about it seemed they were coming to a conclusion rather quickly so I decided to stop ease dropping and go to the locker room. I'm sure Cason will tell us about it in there anyway.

I pushed open the locker room door to find mostly freshmen boys in there.

"Hey Lucas!"

"Lucas what's up dude!"

"Lucas! Can you help me with this homework man?"

What am I some personal tutor? I don't mind tutoring Riley because she's hot as hell but a little fifteen year old? Pass.

"Nah man I'm wiped out I just had English my brain is fried." I half lied. I did just have English I just left out the AP part and that my brain isn't fried at all. Yeah I'm smart but I don't like people knowing that I am. Most people think I'm dumb just because I'm a fairly attractive teenage male so I just let them believe that was true.

Walking over to my designated locker I opened it up then pulled my shirt over my head. Most of the freshmen boys didn't change out in the open like this because they were self conscious or whatever but I'm not.

After changing I sit on the bench and pull out my phone. Remembering something I had been meaning to do I open Instagram and search "Riley Brooks." When nothing comes up I scrunch my eyebrows. What? She doesn't have an Instagram? Who doesn't have an Instagram?

Decided to further my search I went to Chloe's, Riley's friend, profile. I scrolled through Chloe's pictures then her following and followers with no trace of Riley. Weird.

Just as I was about to check Twitter Ian walked in. "So Lukey I'm assuming you still haven't gotten dear Riley to do the do but you'll never guess what I spent my lunch period doing. Literally."

"Well if I had to guess I'd say your hand." I said locking my phone. A couple boys snorted but Ian looked over his shoulder and they stopped.

"Ha ha. You're so funny. But no. Stacy, in the janitor's closet can you believe that? She seemed so innocent." Ian said stepping over the bench to open his locker.

"Wow classy." Was all I bothered to respond with. But the idiot kept talking.

"You wouldn't believe it man. I had her screaming my name I'm surprised you didn't hear it while you were playing teacher with Riley. What the hell is up with that anyway? Is she into that kind of shit or something?"

"Shut the hell up. It's just so I can get her to trust me." I said, telling the truth. That was the truth right?

"Why does she have to trust you?" Ian said taking his shirt off, he also wasn't shy.

"I don't know. It's either that or I get her drunk off her ass. Because she hates me." I said honestly. Though for some reason getting Riley drunk enough to sleep with me didn't sound very appealing. I wanted her to want me, not just be some drunken mistake. What the hell who am I.

"Whatever. I won my round." Ian said once he was fully dressed. I decided to not reply to him because it was useless, he was an idiot.

Finally Cason came into the locker room but he changed quickly and directed us all out to the field. Elliott must be skipping practice, not like it matters this is just off season stuff anyway.

--

After practice I didn't change back into my regular clothes. Cason was being moody and I had already dealt with Ian for as long as I could handle for one day.

Walking out into the parking lot I saw someone standing next to my car. As I got closer I saw it was Elliott.

"Why the hell weren't you at practice?" I asked once he was close enough to hear me.

"Amy." He stated.

"Dude haven't you like banged her twelve times now when are you gonna get over this?" I said pressing the button to unlock my car.

"That's the thing man we weren't banging. We were just, talking." He said and I stopped what I was doing to look up at him.

"Talking?"

"Yeah we got ice cream too." Elliott shrugged his shoulders.

"So you went on a date?" I said and opened my door. Elliott did the same with the passenger door, I guess I'm driving him home.

"Oh shit is that what that was?" Elliott said seeming to just have come to that conclusion.

"Uh yeah from what I've heard that's what one would classify as a date."

"Oh dammit there goes my plan." Elliott said slapping his hands to his lap.

"Plan?" I said starting the car and pulling out of my parking space.

"Yeah I had a plan for out first date. And that's where you come in."

"Me? I know I don't date but I do know that normally a date means two people. And one person doesn't normally bring a friend." I told Elliott I knew he was a little oblivious sometimes but damn.

"No no no. I mean you bring Riley and I bring Amy that way if any of the guys find out they will just think it's a way for you to get Riley."

"Good luck convincing Riley to go anywhere with me." I said turning down Elliott's road.

"Don't worry I got it covered." He said as I pulled up his driveway.

"Okay whatever. What were you planning to do anyway." I said once I put the car in park.

"Laser tag." And with that Elliott got out of the car and walked around the car to his door. Before he went in he turned around and saluted me jokingly. God, he's so stupid.
