// chapter eighteen. //
I'm sure how I ended up at Emily Addams house, but there I was. She was a terrible kisser but she was also one of the only girls I knew that would help me with my problem. She didn't believe in any form of commitment so she was always an easy f.uck. She helped me in more ways than just sexually though. She was actually a really good friend of mine.
"So if you like this girl so much why are you here with me?" She asked once she had listened to me tell my sob story.
"I don't know. I thought maybe you could take my mind off her. No offense, but you didn't." I said. I'm not liking this whole having feelings for someone, it is making me way too honest.
"I could tell. You weren't yourself. So if you like this girl why don't you just tell her?" She stood from her bed and began redressing herself.
"She's part of the game." Emily was one of the very few girls that knew about the game.
She stopped moving and turned to look at me. "You're kidding. Oh my god. Is she yours?"
"Yeah."
"Lucas are you crazy? No one has actually developed feelings for their girl. Like ever. The boys will rip you to shreds." I sighed. Why did I have to have feelings? I came here thinking I could get my mind off her, but here I was talking about her. Why did I even care about her so much?
"I know I know it sucks. I don't know what to do." I ran my hands through my hair.
"You want my advice?" Emily looked me directly in the eye.
I raised my eyebrows before answering, "Honestly? No not at all."
She rolled her eyes, "Well tough shit I'm gonna tell you anyway." Now it was my turn to roll my eyes. "You should tell her. Tell her about the game and how you feel."
"You're the second person to tell me that." I said letting out yet another sigh. They said it like it was so easy.
"I'm sensing a pattern here, maybe you should do it." Emily tapped on her cheek like she was really thinking about it. In that moment, she reminded me of Riley.
"Maybe I will." I said and with that I gathered my keys and left. Seriously doubting that I would actually tell Riley anything.
---
Soon enough it was Friday night and I was anxiously awaiting for the time to pick Riley up to come. Was I actually going to tell her about how I felt? Maybe. Would I shit myself before I even got the words out? Probably.
Finally it was time to leave so I went to the garage and got in my car. After a ten minute pep talk I left my house.
Seconds after I knocked on the door it opened and revealed Claire. "Lukey!" She screamed as she hugged my legs.
I bent down to hug her back. "Hey Claire! What are you doing?" Claire released my legs and gave me a knowing smile.
"I'm waiting for Claire to finish getting ready for your date!!!" She bounced up and down.
"You always say we are going on dates maybe we just like hanging out together." I raised my eyebrows at the little girl. She faltered for only a millisecond before responding.
"Yeah but this time it's real!!! I know because Riley has been getting ready for almost three episodes of Sophia the First!!"
As soon as Claire finished her sentence we both heard Riley yell, "Claire!" Followed by her outburst Riley herself came around the corner. She was dressed in her usual party attire but that only made me more nervous. "What have I told you about opening the door?"
"That I should never do it until I am a big girl just in case it's a bad person." Claire mumbled, obviously having heard those very words many times in the past. "But it wasn't a bad person!!! It was just Lucas!!!" The irony of that statement was almost too much to handle.
"Alright. But next time, don't answer the door!" Riley scolded. She then shifted her attention to me. Her brown eyes stood out due to her thick eyeliner. She could really pull of anything. "Hi Lucas."
"Hey." I said casually. "Are you ready to go?"
"Um, yeah we can go. Claire are you good?" Riley turned to face her sister again. Claire gave her a double thumbs up before Riley bent down to give her a kiss on her cheek.
Claire waved and yelled at us until we had completely pulled out of the driveway. That little girl really was something. The ride was strangely quiet which didn't help settle my nerves.
We pulled into Adam's neighborhood and saw cars lining both sides of the street. Once we were parked we got out and made our way to the loud house.
"Lucas! Dude you made it!" Adam greeted me seconds after we stepped through the door. Though it was only nine, he was already trashed. "And who is this you brought? Holy shit is that Riley?"
Riley took a small step back and her face said everything but comfortable. Suddenly I felt protective and decided we should get away from Adam as soon as possible. "Uh yeah. We were just-"
"Dude she's hot as hell." Adam shifted his attention to Riley, taking two steps forward to see her face better. "Why are you with him? You could do so much better." I tensed at his words, Riley having a similar reaction.
"I can do better? Like who? You? I'll have to pass." Riley spoke up and then she began walking off. I followed her, we had only been here five minutes and already manges to piss off the host.
We continued walking until we reached the kitchen. Before I knew it Riley was grabbing two shot glasses. "You're going to drink?!" I asked her sounding much more childish than I hoped for.
"No. We're both drinking. I forgot how much of an asshole Adam is. I need some alcohol in my system before I deal with him and his riff raff." Riley spoke as she poured vodka into each small glass.
"In case you have forgotten I am indirectly part of that riff raff." I joked as I watched her.
"No, you're different." She looked at me and spoke seriously. She handed me my glass and rose her own.
"Wait. What about driving home?" I asked before she could drink it.
"We can just call a cab. No worries. Just drink." We downed our shots at the same time. As soon as they were set down Riley began to fill them again. Her face reflected my own in that we both thought the liquid was revolting. But she had her reasons for drinking and so did I.
If I was going to tell Riley everything tonight, we might as well be wasted.
