// chapter twelve. //

Sitting at my empty dining room table in my empty house made me realize just how lonely I really was. Here I am on Halloween night staring at the vacant seats surrounding this wooden table. My parents that failed to provide me a sibling to endear this loneliness together gone on another trip. Though, it wasn't their fault I didn't have a sibling, they had tried without success.

My mother had been in the house when I came home earlier. She was picking up more clothes for her and my father, he didn't even bother to show up. By the look on her face when I walked through the door, she was hoping I wouldn't see her.

Luckily we only had to engage in a mildly awkward conversation before she left again. Truthfully, most the time I didn't mind having the house to myself. Sometimes, like now, it gets to me though.

I pulled out my phone to call Elliott to see if there were any parties tonight. It was Halloween after all. Instead, I saw that I had a text message.

-
From: Riley

hey, your biggest fan wants you to come trick or treating with her.

-

I smiled at the text before typing out my reply.

-
To: Riley

a bit old to be trick or treating don't you think?

-

-
From: Riley

-

-
To: Riley

After sending my response I checked the time, it was only five. Deciding to eat before leaving I went to the kitchen.

I was about half way through my sandwich when I heard my front door open and close. Thinking it was mother I quickly walked out of the kitchen to the stairs to avoid another uncomfortable encounter.

"Dude! Where are you going?" I heard someone, Elliott, call when I was halfway up the stairs.

"Shit man sorry I thought you were my mom." I said as I turned around to descend the stairs. "She was here when I got home and I thought maybe she came back because she forgot something." I explained when I got to the bottom of the staircase.

"Nah it's just me. Now come on I came to get you to come to Alex's party!" He said bringing a hand down on my back forcefully. "Amy said she's dressing up as a cat and I can't wait to see her in a tight black dress."

"No can do. I have plans already." I said taking his hand off my back and shuffling passed him.

"Plans? What the f.uck we never hangout anymore dude. You need to hurry up and f.uck her already." Elliott said as he followed me to the door.

"I will, chill. Now if you'll excuse me." I said as I opened the door for him, ushering him out.

Elliott slowly made his way out door but then turned around. "Who's gonna be my DD dude?"

"Maybe you should try f.ucking Amy while you're sober." I said teasingly as I closed the door in his face.

--

"Trick or treat!" I said when Riley's front door opened to revealed Claire, dressed up as one of the princesses on her wall.

"You don't get any candy, you're not dressed up!!" Claire giggled.
