// chapter three. //

Stepping into my house I realized two things one, I hadn't eaten all day and I was f.ucking starving. Two, my parents weren't home which wasn't really a shock.

I dropped my soccer bag at the door and ventured to the kitchen. Tapping away at the refrigerator door I noticed something on the counter beside it. A note.

Lucas,

Went to Ski Lodge, be back in two weeks.

xx, Mom

Typical. There wasn't even snow yet and they have already started leaving for the season. Not that I mind being alone but I do hate having to eat shit. Looking back into the refrigerator I picked out some turkey and lettuce, sandwiches for dinner it is.

Now what. I could text the guys.

-

To: Ian, Elliott, Cason

Hey, parents are out of town. Come over.

-

Walking back to the front door to get my bag I feel my phone buzz in my pocket.

-

From: Elliott

Ok be there in 30

-

Once I reach my room the fact that I did not shower after practice becomes apparent so I decide to hop in the shower before Elliott gets here. If the other guys come before that they can wait, should have texted me back sooner.

Once out of the shower I see I have two new messages.

-

From: Ian

Major Stacy developments happening right now so I'll have to pass

-

-

From: Cason

Swamped with homework, being a senior sucks.

-

I text the other two back telling them it's fine. To be completely honest Elliott is my closet friend of the group anyway. Cason is cool but guarded and I hate Ian more often then I actually like him.

Elliott has been my best friend since the first day of middle school, when we were both fat and scared shitless. Middle school soccer, puberty and one another helped us get through that awkward phase.

The doorbell rings and I walk down my stairs to get it. Opening the door I see Elliott.

"Ski Lodge?" He asks with raised eyebrows.

"You know them so well." I say letting him inside.

"What can I say I've known you for what, four years? You'd think they'd get tired of that place." He says walking through the door into the living room, making himself right at home by laying out on the couch.

"Apparently not. They've done this every year since I turned thirteen." I say sitting down on the love seat across from him.

"Whatever. So how is Riley coming along. From what I saw this morning, not very good." Elliott said smiling at me, he knows I hate rejection.

"Actually quite well. I have a date with her tomorrow during lunch." I state proudly.

"The point of the game isn't to date her, it's to fuck her." Elliott down panned.

"I know, but I have to get her to trust me first. What about you huh? How's Amy coming along?"

"She already came along, if you know what I mean." The other boy stated smugly.

"What? You already got her?! When?" I asked shocked. He already got this year's round done that had to be a record.

"Homecoming night. She was a lot easier than expected. Did it in the back seat of my car." Elliott said with a smirk. He reached for the remote to turn the TV on, seemingly uninterested in the conversation.

"Unbelievable. You get easy Amy and I get Riley." I say ending the conversation and focusing on the tv show Elliott had chosen.

--

"Just so we are clear, this is not a date." Riley said as she walked into the room and set her books down. "This is just a person who is good at math helping a person who is not so good at math. Got it?"

"Whatever you say princess." I say as I turn her math book to face me.

"Don't call me that." She snaps continuing to ruffle through her papers.

"Okay sunshine." I don't have to look up to know she's glaring at me.

"You're annoying." She says as she pulls what I assume to be her homework out of her binder.

"So I've been told." I say tapping my pencil. "So what do you need help on."

"Everything." Riley states flatly. "More specifically, numbers 1-25 odd." She tucks a strand of her long dark hair behind her ear. She actually is kind of beautiful, not that I would ever admit that anyone, especially her.

"Alright, let's get started." I say clearing my throat and my mind of thoughts of Riley's outward apparance.

Many, many, many curse words and numbers later we are almost done with her homework.

"I still understand none of this. You suck at tutoring." Riley says.

"Well looks like we'll have to make this a daily thing." I say smiling.

"You're lucky I have to pass this stupid class." Riley says packing up her things. "Tomorrow. Same time. Same place."

She says when she gets to the door.

"Can't wait sunshine." I say as I salute her.

"Don't call me that, asshole." Riley rolls her eyes before walking out the door.

Ah, Riley, still a bitch even after I dedicated my entire lunch to her extremely easy math homework. Whatever progress is progress no matter how small. She might be on the road to trusting me. Which means I'll be one step closer to ending this year's round.
