1 Year Later
A year can really make a difference. A huge difference. Sometimes huge milestones happen, other times a loved one is lost. But in the end, a year is a long time, and that proved true in the lives of the 17-year-old runaways.
Not only had they stayed in Denver and worked their asses off, but they both also managed to get another job to help push them closer to getting a house of their own. One that didn't have neighbors so close by. Elliot and Olivia's bruises had long faded, and neither of them was wondering what their families were doing. However, they both knew that Joseph was in prison on a life sentence that he'd serve completely, or die before he finishes it.
Olivia didn't know, but Serena and her boyfriend had been arrested and both were in jail for drug charges but their sentences weren't nearly as long as Joseph's.
"Happy Birthday, baby." Elliot breathed, as he opened the door to the bedroom he and Olivia shared, before lighting the candle on a cupcake.
"El?" Olivia yawned, as she pushed herself up. Elliot started to sing Happy Birthday to Olivia, as she smiled and cheered a bit for him. He grinned as he passed her the plate with the cupcake on it. Olivia closed her eyes tightly and wrinkled her nose a bit before making her wish and blowing out the candle.
"Like the cupcake?" Elliot asked before Olivia leaned in and pressed her lips firmly against his.
"You can eat it, El. I can't eat this much sugar in the morning." Olivia spoke. Elliot took the candle off and sat it on the edge of the plate before unwrapping the cupcake and taking a huge bite from it.
"What do you want to do today?" Elliot asked as he finished the cupcake up.
"I want to spend today with you. Just you." She smiled, before reaching out and running her hands over his chest.
"That was your only option, honestly." Elliot grinned, before sitting the plate down. He wrapped his arms around her waist and forced her back down onto the mattress. He peppered her face with kisses as she laughed.
Elliot leaned back a bit and smiled at Olivia.
"What?" She asked as she ran her hand over her cheek.
"I need you to promise me something, baby."
"Okay?" She questioned, her eyes filling with concern.
"Always laugh like that, okay? Never stop laughing." Elliot breathed. Olivia pulled him down and pressed a light kiss to his lips before nodding.
"I promise you that, Elliot. Now, what's my gift?"

After Elliot gave Olivia her gift, they got ready for the day and started to clean their trailer. It was dirty because they have been working almost every day and haven't gotten a chance to spiff up a bit.
"I love my birthday." Olivia smiled, as she tossed some more dirty clothes into the laundry basket. Elliot laughed.
"Sorry babe, but it just makes sense that we do this on our day off. And I know it kinda sucks that your birthday just happens to fall on our day off." Elliot spoke. She shrugged a bit before walking over and grabbing the detergent and the dryer sheets.
"Wanna go wash laundry with me?" She asked, and Elliot shook his head.
"No. I think that I'm going to stay here and clean some more." Elliot smiled. He walked over to Olivia and kissed her before walking her outside. She got into their car and drove to the laundromat and once she was out of sight, Elliot started to pull out the decorations for the party he was throwing Olivia.
A few of their coworkers were coming over to celebrate and he knew that Olivia was going to be shocked. They had produced enough dirty clothes in the last week that she'd be doing laundry for a while, so he had plenty of time to set up and go pick up the cake.
He couldn't wait to surprise his girlfriend.

Olivia pulled up eventually, and when she got out, the trailer was lit up with Christmas lights and there were several people waiting outside for her. They yelled surprise and Olivia was truly surprised.
"What is this?" She mused, as their boss, Tia, made it through the crowd to where Olivia stood and drew her into a warm hug.
"This is your birthday party, Olivia. Happy Birthday." Tia grinned before Olivia was passed between everyone until they made it into the house. Olivia was shoved into a chair by her boyfriend before he leaned down and kissed her. The party started quickly.
The pizza was consumed. Presents were opened. People talked. Then the cake was eaten.
By the end of the night, Elliot and Olivia were exhausted and laid cuddled together in their bed.
"Everyday I realize that I love you more than I loved you the day before. I don't know how that is possible because I love you so fucking much already." Olivia spoke. She ran her hand over his chest and he laughed softly.
"I love you too, baby. You are so tired that you are being all mushy." He breathed, before kissing the top of her head.
"I do have to say that you don't have my whole heart through, El." She mumbled, as her eyes closed.
"What? Liv?" He asked, worriedly. He was wondering if she might be falling for someone else, not even remembering that Olivia has a daughter out there.
"Avery. She still is so important to me and I love her so much. I sent her parents a letter explaining what happened. And I guess I should show you what they sent back." Olivia spoke. She climbed out of bed and grabbed an envelop that she had sitting on their dresser. She picked it up and pulled out a picture of Avery, before turning on the light in the room.
"This is Avery as of Christmas. Look at those curls and that smile that is covered in frosting." Olivia smiled, as she passed the picture to Elliot.
"It's crazy that she is two." Elliot breathed, and Olivia nodded in agreement.
"Elliot, does it upset you that when we start having babies, that our first one will not be my first child?" Olivia asked, and Elliot shook his head.
"No, it doesn't bother me. Now, shut up and go to sleep. We have work in the morning." He spoke. Olivia sighed before going and putting the picture back. She climbed back into bed with him before wrapping her arms around his body and pressing a deep kiss to his lips.
"I love you, birthday girl." He mumbled to her.
