Elliot and his mother spent a lot of time outside of the next few weeks. Bernie asked if they could plant some flowers or even a few vegetables. So Elliot tilled up the ground just to the side of their small deck and he helped his mother plant flowers and a few tomato plants. Olivia just watched from the sidelines because she didn't feel like they wanted to have her try and help.
Olivia did feel left out because Elliot and Bernie were doing a lot together, while Elliot and Olivia rarely did anything together anymore. They went to work together, but they didn't see each other and at lunch, Elliot went home to eat lunch with his mother and to make sure she was okay. She tried to hide her loneliness, but she didn't really need to because Elliot wasn't noticing her that often anymore.
"Is tomorrow your day off?" Bernie asked Elliot on a Friday night. He was sitting on the couch and going through the mail, while Olivia folded laundry.
"It is. Do you need me to run some errands with you?" Elliot asked, and Bernie nodded.
"I need to get my pills refilled again and then I need to send a few letters out," Bernie replied.
"Letters?" Elliot asked.
"Yeah. To your siblings." She replied quietly.
"Is that going to take all day?" Olivia asked, quietly.
"What do you mean?" Elliot replied, as Bernie sighed and looked at Olivia with annoyance on her face.
"Well, I was thinking you and I could spend some time together... maybe go out?" Olivia asked. Elliot smiled a bit at her, before looking at his mother. His smile faded when he saw that Bernie was angrily looking at Olivia.
"Mom, Olivia and I will go refill your prescription and then send the letters," Elliot spoke, and Bernie was about to object, but Olivia frowned.
"It's okay. I think I'm gonna go see if I can get some overtime. It'll be some extra money towards the house." Olivia spoke, before standing and handing Bernie her clothes, before taking the rest into the bedroom. Elliot looked at his mother and frowned when Olivia shut the door.
"Lay off, Mom." Elliot huffed.
"What? I'm not the one that was throw-"
"I love her, Mom. And I'm just now realizing that I have been ignoring her... I've been so obsessed with taking care of you and making sure you are okay and that means that I have been ignoring my girlfriend. So tomorrow, I will get your pills but Olivia and I will be together getting them. You can work in the garden."

Bernie was even colder to Olivia that night and in the morning that she had been in the weeks since she moved in with her and Elliot. Elliot ignored his mother instead and tried to make up as much with Olivia as he possibly could.
"So, can we talk?" Olivia asked as she and Elliot drove towards the pharmacy in the grocery store they worked at.
"I'm sorry, baby. For ignoring you and for acting like you aren't important to me. You are the most important person to me in this whole world. Please forgive me." Elliot spoke, and Olivia's eyes went wide as she looked over at him.
"I was gonna apologize for making your Mom upset... you don't need to apologize to me. You are just trying to have a relationship with your Mom. I just kinda got in the way a bit."
"You didn't get in the way, Liv. She did... you were being so nice when you said she could move in. I don't think that it was a good idea though. She's really controlling and she's taking up all of my time. I think that we should have just helped her find a hotel or an apartment that is closer to us. Then you and I could be alone at the end of the day. We haven't done, you know what, since your birthday."
"Do you wonder if you should've gone back to Manhattan with her? Gotten her settled in and then just called me and told me if you were coming back or wanted to break up?" Olivia asked quietly.
"Never... I just wish that she wouldn't be so controlling. Do you notice when she licks her finger and cleans the food from my face or just squeezes my cheeks randomly?" Elliot spoke, and Olivia nodded as she tried to restrain from laughing.
"You are her baby. She's just trying to make up for lost time. But we don't have to hang out today if you don't want to. Maybe you should go home and make sure she is okay." Olivia sighed. Elliot pulled into the parking lot before parking. He turned to look at Olivia and smiled.
"I'm gonna spend the whole day with you. Making up for lost time. And I can't stand another day taking care of that damn garden."
"I saw crows eating the small tomatoes. I hope your mother didn't notice."
"She's too busy babying me to notice."

Bernie sat on the front steps of the trailer all day as she waited for Elliot and Olivia to get home. She was really hating that Elliot was ignoring her and spending the day with Olivia instead of herself. She was being very clingy, but she didn't realize that she was clingy.
"Where's Elliot?" Bernie questioned Olivia as soon as she stepped into the trailer.
"He's taking the trash out. It was sitting by the end of the path so he decided to take it down." Olivia replied. She walked into the kitchen and sighed when she saw that the dishes were still there. She had been hoping that Bernie was bored enough to do them, but she wasn't.
"He shouldn't have to do that. Olivia, go stop him." Bernie ordered, and Olivia finally had it. She stopped and looked at her.
"Your son and I are equals. We both work and bring money in, and we also both clean the house. You do neither. I'm glad that you and Elliot have each other again, but I won't be having you stealing him from me. If you want to continue living here, you need to help out more and you need to remember that I'm his girlfriend and that we were there for each other when you weren't." Olivia spoke, before seeing Elliot walk through the front door.
"Elliot, kick her out," Bernie ordered.
"No, Mom. This is our house, and you are the guest. So either accept the fact that Olivia is the main woman in my life. You are my mother and I love you and all, but I love her too and I want to spend the rest of my life with her."
