"Have a great day!" The store clerk
smiles as she hands Dan the small bag. He takes the bag, says thank you, and then leaves the store. Once outside, the chilly London air blows his curls slightly. He reaches into the bag and carefully pulls out the contents. A ring box. Even more carefully, he opens it and examines the ring within. It was a gold ring, decorated with a swirling silver pattern. He smiles as he closes the box and puts it back in the bag.

Two weeks. That's how long he had. Two weeks until the big question. He hadn't asked Phil if he was ready to get married, but wasn't that part of the fun? Surprising them and then having them say yes? And besides, they had been dating for 2 years, they were pretty much already married.

Now the tricky part was hiding the ring and planning a day to pop the question. Phil was rather nosy, he often liked to go poking around in Dan's stuff, so he would have to be careful about where he put it.

He got a taxi back to their apartment and stuck the box in his pants pocket before throwing the bag away in a public trashcan. Then he walked into their apartment and tried to look like "he had just gone to the store, only to find what he was looking for wasn't in stock". That was his backup story.

I know. Pretty crap.

But Phil was pretty naïve, he would probably buy it. And speaking of buying, Dan was currently feeling in his soul the large sum of money he had just spent on the ring. But it would be worth it.

"Phil, I'm home!" He calls, setting his apartment keychain and wallet on the small table they had set up by the door.

"I'm in the kitchen!" Comes the yell back. Dan carefully looks around before hiding the ring box in one of his shoes, particularly the pair that Phil hated and thus, would never put on.

"Whatcha doing?" He asks, bumping his head into Phil's gently.

"Making some hot chocolate! Want some?" Phil asks, stirring his cup of hot chocolate.

"That'd be great," Dan says, smiling at Phil appreciatively. He watches as Phil heats up another cup of milk before adding the packet of hot chocolate. He stirs it in, making sure there were no clumps of dry powder unmixed.

"Marshmallows?" He asks, dropping a few small ones into his own.

"Nah, I don't think they're as great as you make them out to be," Dan says, reaching for his cup and wrapping his fingers around it.

"What's not to like?" Phil sighs, throwing one into the air a miraculously catching it in his mouth. "Sweet, soft, and airy," Phil says, smiling and closing his eyes.

"You're obsessed," Dan says, blowing on his steaming hot chocolate. Phil only giggles and takes a small sip before clenching his eyes shut and setting the cup down.

"No nope, too hot too hot!" He says as he hangs his tongue out of his mouth.

"Did you burn your mouth?" Dan asks, laughing. "Nice one Phil."

"I was too impatient," Phil pouts.

"Maybe now you'll learn your lesson," Dan says, fully knowing Phil would probably do the same thing in about 2 minutes.
