REMEMBER

Remember when you were just a child,

Remember those nights where you sat in the back seat,

Remember the lights you saw stretching out for miles?

One after one after one, on the side of the road?

Back then, when wonder was in everything, even the smallest details?

Why do we loose that?

The world will never tell.

The blinking red lights out in the distance,

I'd always mistake them for what they really were.

To everyone else, they were towers to keep away the airplanes,

To me, they were UFOs, I remember being so sure.

Remember when you believed that magic was real and Santa was keeping a list?

Now you know that it was your parents scraping away money just to get you a gift.

Remember when you'd wait for a tooth to fall out and then get excited for bed?

Remember how you'd stuff the tooth under your pillow, trying to pretend to sleep?

Remember when you caught your parents leaving the dollar instead?

Once you were given an explanation, a little light dimmed from inside you.

In your sleep, you dreamed, but you no longer counted sheep.

Remember how things used to be?

Remember when we were all care-free?

Remember how you'd get angry at your parents for spoiling you dreams?

Now you long for those days again,

For now you think that fairy-tales do exist,

In your parents, they can.

The world will tell you to grow up,

Eventually you will.

Remember the days when you said you'd never stop dreaming?

Remember when that vow broke at the seams?

Growing up comes with a price,

But staying young at heart,

Well, that's a start.
