I spent the rest of the time trying my best to get everything done. I had to work till 3:30pm but still had a few things left to do when it was almost 4.
A knock at my door made me look up from my notebook and before I could say anything, Mr. Greenfield was standing in my doorway. "What are you still doing here? You should've left 30 minutes ago, Ms. Bauer" he said, walking over to my desk. "I haven't been able to finish all the work yet. I'm so sorry sir" I told him with an apologetic look.
"What's left?" He asked me with an unreadable expression. I showed him the list he had given me this morning, pointing out which tasks I hadn't finished yet. He took it from my hand and just nodded. "See you tomorrow. 7:30 sharp. I expect you to be on time" he told me, his facial expression so much different again compared to earlier. "Of course, sir. I can stay a bit longer though. What about those tasks?" I asked him confused. "I will finish them myself" he just said and then left my office without another word. Great, so he would rather do some extra work and finish it himself than have me do it.
Maybe this job is just too much for me after all. Maybe I'm just not good enough. Maybe it was a mistake to even apply in the first place.
Before I could doubt myself any more and quit after only a day of working here, I closed the laptop and got up. I then grabbed my bag and also the I Phone that Mr. Greenfield had given me, since my own one had a huge crack down the display and would also just randomly freeze from time to time. When I walked out, I saw that Mrs. Tilton had already left as well. I made my way to the busstop and waited quite a while before the next bus eventually arrived.
When I had finally gotten back to my flat, the first thing I did was take off my heels and then threw them at the wall. It was only now, that I felt how sore and also a bit swollen my feet actually were. I made my way over to my bed and let myself fall down onto it, looking up at the ceiling. This had only been my first day and my whole energy seemed to already be drained. I couldn't help but think about everything that had happened today, most of my thoughts revolving around Mr. Greenfield. I still couldn't seem to figure this guy out. One second he's all cold and makes me feel like I can't do shit and the other second he seems like an actual nice person who cares about people's feelings.
In times like this, I really wished I would have someone to talk to about all of this with but given the fact that I've only come to London a little over 3 weeks ago, I haven't really gotten to know many people yet.
After eating some pasta for dinner, I decided to do what always seemed to help me get my thoughts to rest. I usually would run myself a nice bubblebath but my flat sadly didn't include a bathtub so I took a hot shower instead and then called it a day. I cuddled up into my bed and grabbed the book from my bedside table, getting lost in it and for a moment forgetting about all of my problems.
When I was starting to get quite tired I decided that I needed to be full of energy tomorrow so I put my book down, grabbed the I Phone and set my alarm for tomorrow. When I did just that, I noticed that I had recieved a text from an unknown number.
'Hey.
I just wanted to quickly check on you. I hope you are feeling better after your breakdown today?
A.G.'
My eyes widened as I realised who this message was from. My boss, Alexander freaking Greenfield, just sent me a text to make sure that I was okay. It took me about half an hour to come up with a reply that I felt like was half decent. Like, what are you supposed to text your boss. If I had went with what my initial response had been, I would've thanked him and asked him a question back, maybe even told him about how I really felt. But after writing and then deleting probably about 50 replies, I ended up keeping it simple and professional because that's what our realationship is and what it's gonna stay like. Simply professional. Nothing more, nothing less.
'I'm good again. Thank you for asking.
See you tomorrow, sir.'
His text however didn't help one bit with making me any less confused. Just when I thought that Mr. Greenfield was back to his usual cold behaviour when I left the office today, he suddenly goes all nice and caring again. I knew that I was thinking way to much into this. He is my boss and he probably just wanted to make sure whether his PA was gonna make it to work tomorrow or not.
I still couldn't bring myself to stop thinking about it though. I already knew that I was gonna have a hard time falling asleep tonight.
One of my biggest problems is, that I overthink pretty much everything to the point where I just lie in bed and go through all the possible scenarious in my head and then stress over how things might turn out. And no matter how hard I try, I never seem to be able to snap myself out of it. It usually ends with me just overthinking until my brain can't take anymore and I just fall asleep.
Which is exactly what happened this night as well...all thanks to my new boss.

Okay so this chapter is a bit short as well but just because I'm pretty sure that the next one is gonna be in Mr. Greenfields P.O.V.
