When it was half past four, I packed all my things and then made my way towards the elevator. I noticed that the light in Mr. Greenfield's office was still on, making me debate whether I should go say goodbye to him or not. I decided against it, since I didn't want to bother him, knowing he was really busy and I'd also rather avoid any more possibilities of doing anything stupid in front of him.
When I came home, I just took a quick shower and went straight to bed. It was a really eventful day and I was too exhausted to even bother eating something. Luckily, different to last night, I had fallen into a deep sleep after what seemed like only a few seconds.
The last three days of my first week at work went on pretty uneventful, which was a nice change after the first two. My days basically consisted of Mr. Greenfiled sending me a mail, saying what I needed to do, which I then worked on. We barely got to see eachother, which luckily lessened the risk of me embarrassing myself in front of him for what would kinda feel like the hundreth time.
Right now, it was Friday, 11:30 to be exact, and I only had to stay till 12 o'clock today. I was really excited to get off work sooner and just have some proper time to myself, since pretty much all I've been doing the last four days was get up early, go to work, go home, shower, eat and then go to sleep.
"Lennard Seaton just called. He wants the meeting on Monday morning now and he also wants a few changes made in the contract..." Mr. Greenfield said, tearing me out of my thoughts as he just barged into my office, without knocking. "Meaning that I'm gonna need you to stay longer and prepare everything for Monday with me" he continued, making me groan internaly. "And there goes my me-time" I thought but accidentally said it out loud, biting my bottom lip as I noticed.
"Is there a problem with that, Ms. Bauer?" Mr. Greenfield asked, raising his eyebrows at me. "No. Not at all, sir." I told him, faking a smile. "Good, I'll send you a-" he started but I nodded as I interrupted him. "an email with the details. Yeah I'm already on it" I told Mr. Greenfield as I looked back at my laptop and he left after a moment without saying anything else.
About and hour later, there was a knock at my door again. "Yes?" I asked and groaned slightly as I looked at the door, already preparing for some more instructions.
To my surprise, my eyes met a friendly face though as the door opened. "Hey there. You're still here too? Is big boss not letting you go, huh?" Luke asked with a soft chuckle as he walked over to my desk and sat down on it. "Nope. Gotta prepare a meeting with Lennard Seaton" I told him and sighed softly. "Well that sucks. But I think I have an idea to brighten your mood" Luke said, a cheeky grin forming on his lips. "Okaaay? Not sure if I like that look on your face?" I told him and giggled softly. "Well, I had to pick up something from Mrs. Tilton and when I saw your office, I had this brilliant idea and thought I might just go and see if you're still here so I could tell you.." he began to explain. "My friend from the mail department asked me to go out with him and a few other people tonight. And I was thinking that you'd surely want to get to know someone else working here, right? Plus, who can say no to drinks at the pub with me, right?" He went on and nudged my arm, looking at me with an expecting face. "Uhm well I don't know, Luke. I was planning to just relax and wind down tonight" I told him and shrugged. "Oh come on. You can wind down at the pub just as fine." he stated, winking at me. "Pleeeeeeease, Steffi" he mumbled and started to pout a little. "Urgh okay, fine. I'll come" I gave in, making Luke grin widely as he cheered slightly.
"Okay now go, I need to get my work done or I'll have to do a night shift, which would mean no time for going out with you" I told him and he nodded as he handed me his phone. "Okay okay. I'm already gone. But first put your number in, so I can text you the details" he ordered with a smile and I did so.
"I don't pay you to sit here and chat all day, do I? Both of you!" a deep, harsh voice said as the door flew open and Mr. Greenfield walked in. He must've heard Luke cheer or something. "Sorry, sir. I'm already out the door" Luke told Mr. Greenfield as he got up and took his phone from me again. "See you later, love" he called as he left my office.
