I made my way to the band's dressing room, biting down on my bottom lip, as I tried hard to not let my emotions take over me. I figured that busying myself would help me get my mind off of what just happened. After making sure that the band was ready and had everything they needed, I made my way back into the big hall, standing next to Luke, who was looking up at the stage curiously, along with everyone else.
"You okay?" He whispered as he looked over at me and frowned. "I'll tell you about it later" I said, not wanting to let myself get distracted by all of this. I needed to stay professional even more now.
"Okay. Our attention is needed on stage now anyways. Your cutie of a boss is gonna be up there in a few seconds" Luke said, trying to cheer me up. I forced a slight smile as I looked at him and then at the stage as well. Sure enough, a moment later Mr. Greenfield walked up onto it. He looked just as perfect and cold as always and not even the slightest bit bothered by the argument we just had a few minutes ago.
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I'd like to welcome you all in the name of A.G. cooperation. I wanna quickly remind you, that all proceeds of tonight are gonna be donated to the children's cancer foundation London. You'll also have the opportunity to make some extra donations as well. For further information you can find brochures on every table or you can contact members of the foundation, who are here tonight. I hope you're all gonna enjoy yourselves and I wish you a great evening" Mr. Greenfield said flashing everyone a smile as they applauded for him. He then made his way back down from the stage and I saw a blonde woman walk up to him as the band started to play. I watched him rest his right hand on her back and took her left hand in his as they started to dance along with a few other couples.
"My lady, can I have this dance?" Luke asked, tearing my gaze away from Mr. Greenfield. "Nah I think I better go check if everything is okay in the kitchen" I told Luke but he just took my hand and pulled me closer to him. "Stop worrying, everything is going fine. Plus, this isn't your event and you're also not the chef or anything" he stated with a soft smile. "Yeah you're right I guess" I mumbled and nodded as I looked at him while we danced.
For the rest of the evening I did the best I could to avoid Mr. Greenfield, which actually wasn't too hard, since he seemed to be doing just the same. The conversation I had with him earlier was still the main thing on my mind but I kept pushing my worries aside in order to do a good job.
A few hours later, it was getting pretty late and quite a few people had gone home already.
"So are you gonna tell me about what happened earlier? You seem stressed, Steffi. It's about Greenfield, isn't it?" Luke asked as we sat at one of the tables. "Yeah it is. He pulled me into this staff room and had a go at me earlier." I mumbled and bit my lip as I sighed. "What for? What's his problem now?" Luke said and rolled his eyes in annoyance. "Well he basically made it seem as if I couldn't be trusted near alcohol and that I was only here to party, when I should be doing my job. I didn't even finish one glass of champagne but he just goes and makes me look like an alcoholic or something." I told Luke and frowned, tears forming in my eyes.
"What a dick" Luke muttered and shook his head as he glanced over to Mr. Greenfield and then looked back at me again. "Well I get that he is still pissed for what happened last Friday night. But he basically accused me of never being able to control myself. Like, what does he think of me? As If I would just get drunk at a really important work event like this" I told Luke, tears threatening to spill from my eyes now. "He also said that he thinks I'm not right for this job and he's probably gonna look for a new PA. One that's more professional than I am" I added quietly, a tear falling down my cheek but I quickly wiped it away with my finger, not wanting anyone to notice. "And here I am, being unprofessional once again." I mumbled.
"Awwww Steffi. No. You have every right to be upset. He is your boss and yes, you called him in the middle of the night when you were drunk, but he doesn't have the right to hold that against you. It had nothing to do with work and he didn't even have to pick up, nor take you home" Luke stated and shook his head as he rested his hand on my shoulder. "He's being straight up rude and that's not okay" he said and I just shrugged. "Whatever. I should just try to ignore him" I mumbled, taking a deep breath as I calmed down a little.
"Let's leave. It's getting late anyways. Just go and ask him if you're free to go." Luke said as a yawn escaped my mouth. I did have a long day.
I looked over at Mr. Greenfield who was talking to the same girl he danced with earlier, both of them having a glass of wine in their hands. "Come on. It's gonna take like, not even a minute. I think she'll manage without his attention for a few seconds" Luke told me as he noticed the unsure look on my face. I sighed and nodded as I took the courage to walk up to Mr. Greenfield. "Uhm excuse me, sir" I said as I stood behind him, already earning a dirty look from the blonde for interrupting them. Mr. Greenfield then turned around and looked down at me. "I was wondering if it was okay for me to leave?" I asked him and bit my lip. He just nodded in response as he looked at his watch to check the time. "See you on Monday" he said, before turning around again.
I didn't say anything else and made my way back to Luke, who left with me and took me back to my flat. "Don't worry too much. He is just being a little bitch. I'm sure he isn't really gonna replace you. You're doing an awesome job and he knows that." Luke said as he parked his car in front of my apartment complex.
"I guess. Thanks for joining me tonight. I wouldn't have survived without you." I told him, giving him a quick hug, before I opened the car door.
"Hey... it wasn't that bad, was it? There's so many worse things that could've gone wrong. Like, you could've tripped down the stairs and torn your dress open, flashing some of the UK's most influential people. Or imagine if you had gotten a huge breakout of pimples all over your face yesterday or something... Now that would have been tragic!" Luke joked, trying to cheer me up. I just laughed softly and shook my head at him. "Good night, Luke. You're an idiot"I said in a playful way as I got out of his car. "Yeah I know. Night Steffi, sleep well" Luke said, shrugging with a grin and then waited until I had disappeared into my flat.
I only took off my dress and brushed my teeth, before letting myself fall down onto my bed. I couldn't be bothered to undo my hairdo or take off my make up, even though I was most definitely gonna regret that the next morning. Other than Luke, I wasn't so sure, whether it could've really gone any worse for me than it did. All I wanted was to forget about how shitty this night turned out to be and just fall asleep as fast as possible.

I've got another chapter pretty much ready. Might upload it either today as well or tomorrow.
