Alexander Greenfield's P.O.V (flashback to when Stefanie called him)
After spending a few more hours at the office, finishing my preparations for the meeting with Lennard Seaton, I finally made my way back home. I took a quick shower and changed into some new boxers, before getting into bed when it was around 10:30pm. I was really tired, since I had a pretty busy week and also didn't get much sleep either. I turned on the TV but soon enough fell asleep.
I was abruptly woken up about an hour later by my phone going off. I opened my eyes slightly and my eyebrows furrowed as I saw the caller ID. Stefanie Bauer. Why the hell would she call me up in the middle of the night?
"Ms. Bauer?" I mumbled confused, my voice cracking as I checked the time. 20 minutes past midnight. "Heeeey big boss. What's uuup?" I heard her giggle, making me raise my eyebrows. Her voice sounded different than it normally does. It wasn't hard for me to tell that she seemed to have had a few too many drinks. "Are you drunk?" I then asked her as I sat up a little. "Am I drunk? Hmmmm? Let me think, Alex. Am I drunnnnk? Nah I'm not" she slurred, making me shake my head.
I obviously noticed her using my first name but didn't say anything about it. "That's very convincing" I told her and ran a hand through my hair.
I couldn't help but wonder where she was right now and why she decided to call me. It seemed like she was somewhere outside, since I could hear what sounded like the wind.
"Exactly. Because I... am not drunnnk" I then heard her mutter and I chuckled to myself. I never expected her to be the type of girl to just get wasted off her guts on a friday night but I guess I thought wrong. All of a sudden there was lots of noise and ruffling on the other side of the line and Stefanie didn't say anything anymore, instantly worrying me for some reason. "Stefanie?" I asked unsure, impatiently waiting for her to answer.
"Oh pleeease call me Steffiiiiii" I heard her giggle, a wave of relief instantly washing over me.
"What are you doing right now?" I asked her, really confused about what was going on. There was a long pause before I could hear her voice again. "Walking hooome, what else? I'm sooo tired. Gonna have looooads of fun in my bed. This week was really ex-exhausting, you know. My boss gave me soooo much work to dooo.... Ooooopsie daisy, you're my boss." She mumbled all at once. I bit my lip at what she said, feeling a little bad for a second, before pushing those thoughts aside again and focusing on the real issue. She couldn't possibly be out in the streets drunk and alone, could she?I quickly got up and grabbed a shirt and sweats, putting them on with the phone still in my hands. "You're walking home alone? Where did you come from?" I asked her while I put my shoes on.
"The pub, right...the pub. Uhm...Billy's? Benny's? No that's not itttt" she slurred, making it quite hard for me to understand. The only popular pub starting with a B, which was also kinda close to her, was Barney's. It was still quite far if she was really walking all the way home from there though, not even mentioning how dangerous it is, especially in her neighbourhood.
"Barney's?" I asked her and then heard her cheer in response "Yessss. That's it. You're such a genius, Alexander. Oh my god. You're so perfect...it's kinda scaaary you know? I wish...I wish I could be even half as perfect...that would be like so greeeat. I coul-" she started rambling on again and I sighed before I cut her off. I brushed those words off again for now, even though they kinda got to me a bit.
"Okay just stay where you are, I will be there in a few minutes" told her and heard her giggled in response. "Yes sir. Okay sir. God, you're so demanding...." she mumbled before the line went dead. Great, she just hung up on me. I quickly grabbed my wallet and keys, before making my way outside and into my car, speeding off towards the bar.
I didn't even really know why I was doing this. I just couldn't let her stumble around in the cold by herself. She was completely wasted and such an easy target for anyone who wanted to harm her. I just had to help her. I didn't really have a choice. She was my PA after all and I didn't want to have to look for a new one again already. Those were the only reasons why I was doing this right now, or at least that is what I told myself.
