"Well, help yourself" Mr. Greenfield said as he pointed towards the food and then went to sit back down at his desk. "I hope you like what I ordered" he added and for a second I thought I saw a tiny hint of insecurity but then again, this was Alexander Greenfield talking to me so I must've misinterpreted that.
"Yeah thank you. You pretty much chose some of my favourites" I told him with a slight smile as I grabbed a few fries and ate them. "Do you want some?" I then asked without thinking, my mouth working faster than my brain. Mr. Greenfield looked up from his laptop and over to me. "Sorry I didn't mean to disrupt you" I quickly mumbled. Did I really just ask Alexander Greenfield, aka really influential billionaire, aka my boss, if he wanted some fries? I mentally facepalmed as I felt my cheeks heat up a little. How much more could I possibly embarrass myself?
"Actually, I haven't had that much to eat today either. Some fries sound amazing right now." he said, much to my surprise which I think it was also visible on my face. "Unless you don't want to share?" He asked with a slight smirk as he walked over to the couch and sat down beside me. "I..uhm no of course not" I said with a smile as I looked at him, still a little unsure about all of this.
"So how are you coming along with everything?" Mr. Greenfield asked me after eating a few fries himself. "I think I'm slowly starting to get the hang of it. But it's gonna take me a few more days to fully settle in, I guess" I told him honestly. This situation still seemed pretty bizarre to me. Was I really just sitting in my boss's office, eating fries and having a normal conversation with him? Considering that he didn't have a reputation of having the friendliest realationship with his employees, what happened this last hour confused me even more.
"You seem to be doing quite well for your first day" he said with an unexpected soft expression. "Uhm thank you. I really hope I can live up to your expectations, sir."I told him. "And I swear this whole fainting thing is not gonna happen again" I added and giggled softly.
"I really do hope so" Mr. Greenfield said and chuckled softly. This was the first time I saw him laugh and from what I've heard, he doesn't do it a lot to begin with.
I caught myself just smiling at him stupidly but quickly forced myself to snap out of it. "Well uhm speaking of work. I think I should really head back to my office now. I still have quite a few things to do" I told Mr. Greenfield as I i got up and straightened out my skirt a little.
I was also internally cursing myself for wearing heels this high, since I still had a hard time to walk and even stand in them.
"Wait. Here take this with you. Gonna give you some more energy" Mr. Greenfield said with a soft chuckle as he handed me a banana. "Thanks" I mumbled and felt my cheeks heat up slightly once more. "Oh and one more thing. I don't have anything against a little more casual styling, as long as it's still office appropriate. Like, you look really nice today but I can tell that you're not as comfortable." he told me with a slight smile. "Oh wow it's that obvious?" I asked with a soft giggle. "Thanks for letting me know though. I'll be in my office if you need anything" I said and then walked out of his office again. "Maybe I'm just good at noticing..." he mumbled, too quite for me to hear though, since I was already out the door.
Mrs. Tilton gave me a curious look as I closed the door behind me. "What happened? Are you really okay?" She asked me and I nodded. "Yeah I am. Oh nothing big happened just that I might've fainted in front of Mr. Greenfield because I haven't eaten anyhing today" I told her and looked at her with an embarassed expression. "Oh no you didn't? Sounds embarassing. Are you better now though?" she said emphatically. "Yeah physically I am but I just made the biggest fool out of myself on my first day, so mentally I am not." I said kinda serious kinda joking.
"Well at least Mr. Greenfield was there to help you, huh?" She said with a slight grin. I blushed a little at what she said and bit my lip. "Yeah he was actually really nice. Maybe he's not such a bad boss after all" I told her. "Well I really need to get back to work now if I want him to keep being nice to me" I said with a soft smile as I made my way back to my office and Mrs. Tilton just laughed softly.
