When we arrived at the company again, I got into my office straight away and just went back to work, addressing the letters for the charity event.
Roughly an hour later my phone went off and I rolled my eyes as I saw that it was Mr. Greenfield calling. What's he got planned now?
"I need you in my office" he said and this time I hung up before he could do so. I got up and took a deep breath as I made my way to his office. I didn't say anything and just walked over to his desk after knocking.
"So, do you have the invitations ready?" he asked me and I shook my head. "Got about 20 more left to address" I told him as I leaned against his desk.
"Did I not make it clear enough that this was important? We've got a strict schedule, we can't afford any delays. What the hell is taking you so long?" Mr. Greenfield asked me as he got up from his chair. "Oh I don't know... Maybe a two hour shopping trip kept me from actually doing my work."I said sarcastically and rolled my eyes at him. "Listen, I really appreciate that you tried to be generous and give me a little makeover, but if you're so embarrassed to be seen with me because I 'can't walk in these heels to save my life', then maybe you should look for another PA." I told him, quoting Rita. "As far as I can tell from when I came for the interview, there were enough applicants who were dressed in high end brands from top to bottom...short skirts, high heels and perfect updos as well...just how you like it."I added with quite some attitude, surprising myself, since I didn't seem to care much about the fact that I was risking my job right now.
"But just like I said earlier, I'm not your little charity project. I don't need your help. Because you know what?-I'm tired of people constantly telling me who I can or can't be. I'm so tired of everyone telling what I have to do with my life or what I should change." I told Mr. Greenfield as I tried my best to keep my voice down while giving him a piece of my mind. I guess this just struck a nerve and I had a hard time holding back my emotions in front of Mr. Greenfield, even though this didn't really have much to do with him anymore. There's no other reason I could come up with, that would explain my attitude right now. It was really unlike me to be this rude and just go off at people like that.
"Okay. Are you done?" Mr. Greenfield just asked me really calmly as I was finished with my little rant, leaving me looking at him with wide eyes. How did he manage to stay this calm?
He then walked over to the side of the desk where I was standing. "Listen, I did this purely because I wanted to help you. I could tell that you felt uncomfortable in your clothes and I noticed that you seemed to be on a budget, so I wanted to help you out. I didn't mean to make you feel like you need to change or anything because that is not the case at all. If anything, I wanted you to be more comfortable in what you wear to work. But if you don't want to accept the clothes, just tell me and I'll give Rita a call." he said and shrugged as he looked down at me. I still just looked at him dumbfounded and bit my lip, instantly regretting my outburst. He only wanted to help and I didn't have anything better to do than yell at him, instead of thanking him like any other normal person would do.
"I'm sorry. I don't know what's gotten into me, sir." I mumbled as I looked straight ahead, which practically made me stare at his toned chest, that was quite visible through his dress shirt. "Thank you for helping" I then added quietly. "I'll have the invitations ready in ten minutes at max" I told him as I looked up at him again. "It's fine. Give them to Mrs. Tilton when you're done and then work on what I sent you in my last mail" he told me, looking straight into my eyes. I just nodded as I bit down on my bottom lip and then made my way back to my office quickly.
I sat back down at my desk again and let out a deep breath, I didn't know I was holding. After a moment of scolding myself for not being able to hold back my emotions, especially in front of my boss, I went back to addressing the rest of the invitation letters, trying to forget about what had just happened and just focus on the work I had to do. There was a knock at my door and my heart immediately sped up, thinking it was Mr. Greenfield. "Come in?" I said, unsure, since he never waited long enough for me to say anything. I was surprised as I saw a guy, who definitely wasn't Mr. Greenfield, walk into my office. He had blonde hair and was a little shorter than him as well. He also seemed the be about my age, maybe one or two years older than me. He walked into my office with a friendly smile on his face.
"Hi, I'm supposed to pick up the invitations for Mr. Greenfield's charity gala from Mrs. Tilton but she told me that you had them?" he explained as he seemed to notice my confused expression. "Oh, yeah. I have them right here" I said as I finished the last one and then handed them all to him. "Thanks. Better make sure to get them delivered as soon as possible, right? Don't wanna get big boss angry" he joked and chuckled softly as he winked at me and took the letters. "Yeah I've done enough of that today already. Actually the last few days..."I mumbled and sighed. "Yeah, he's a hard one, I've heard. I'm glad I don't have to deal with him that much. Couldn't imagine how stressful it would be to be his PA. I'd probably have breakouts all over my face. How do you keep your skin this clear? Seriously, it's perfect." he said and raised an eyebrow at me, surprising me a little with his question. "Concealer, lots of it. Helps with the dark circles as well" I told him and and giggled softly, making him laugh. It was true, my skin was far from perfect under all this make up. "No but honestly, he's not that bad anyways. Not all the time at least." I told him, shrugging slightly. "Whatever you say, love" he then chuckled, raising his eyebrows and winking at me once more.
"I'm Luke by the way. From the mail department, 12th floor." he added as he reached his hand out for me to shake. "Nice to meet you, I'm Steffi. From the big boss department, top floor." I introduced myself in the same way, laughing softly and Luke laughed along with me. "Speaking of big boos, I really have to get back to doing my job or I'll be fired by him after less than a week of working here." I told him and sighed as I smiled at him softly. "Okay yeah we definitely don't want that, love. See you around Steffi." he called with a smile as he was already on his way back out of my office. I smiled to myself as I watched him. He was quite refreshing and managed to get my thoughts off of all the trouble for a moment.

Okaaaay new character on the way. What do you think of Luke? I think he's a really fun character. ;)
What do think of this chapter in general? Was it unfair of Stefanie to tell Mr. Greenfield his opinion like that or would you have done the same? Let me know what you think. :)
