Chapter 6: You two better explain

ELIZABETH'S POV

Today was a well-needed quiet day at home. Sherlock was at St. Bart's working on an experiment while John was at the office which gave me the flat to myself. I was curled up in Sherlock's chair with a book and cup of tea.

"Hello."

I looked up to see an older couple standing in the doorway.

"Oh, hello. Are you looking for Sherlock? He ran out for a bit but he should be back soon. Please take a seat. May I get you some tea?"

"A cup sounds love, thank you dear." The woman smiled. I went into the kitchen to start on the tea.

"You must be here to see him about a case. He'll be excited." I sat down the tea in front of them.

"Oh, we're not here about a case. We just came round for a visit."

I gave a small nod and sat down. "Of course. He'll be back soon. He just had to run to St Bart's to pick up something."

The man turned to me and then smiled at his wife. "I don't think she knows who we are."

"I'm not surprised that he didn't say anything." I gave them a confused look, causing the woman to laugh. "You must be Elizabeth. We're Sherlock's parents."

"You're his parents? I'm so sorry! I had no idea you were coming! I would have tidied up the flat."

"You have no need to apologise, dear. We know how he is. Myc told us that Sherlock finally found a girl and so we made a trip down just to see you both!"

"As you can tell my wife is very excited. We've always worried about Sherlock finding a good woman."

"Enough about us. Tell us all about you." Mrs. Holmes smiled.

"I'm not sure what all Mycroft has told you, knowing him it could have been a file with my whole life story." Letting out a small laugh I sat up in my chair. "Well I'm Elizabeth Watson, John's younger sister. I just moved back here to London a little while back. I'm an investigative journalist, which is how I met Myc years ago. Now I work at Scotland Yard most days, on others I still work for Mycroft and the government, and I help Sherlock and John with their cases. Sherl and I started dating not too long ago. He's honestly the most interesting man I ever met and I love it. He's intelligent, witty.. I care so much about him. He treats me very well. I'm very lucky to have him."

Mr. Holmes turned to his wife. "I like this one."

"Her eyes lit up when she talked about him. She's a good one."

I giggled lightly by their comments. They seemed like such sweet people. Very different than Mycroft and Sherlock.

Soon the door swung open and Sherlock walked in. "Elizabeth, shall we go out to get dinner?" He then turned to his parents. "Mum. Dad. What are you doing here?"

"We came down to meet your girlfriend!" Mrs. Holmes exclaimed. "She's a wonderful girl, Sherlock. You're very lucky."

"I'm guessing Mycroft told you.."

"Because we know you wouldn't. We don't know why though. She's a lovely girl."

"Yes, yes. You met her. Now you should be off." Sherlock grabbed onto his mother's hand as she slapped it away.

"We're not going anywhere. Not just yet. We have an hour until your father and I are meeting some friends for dinner. We have time to visit with you two."
