Running.

Klaus.

Flash.

Bang.

Pain.

Red.

Dark.

Before I knew it, Ben was taking out the last of the robbers and Klaus and Luther were helping me to the car and Dad is driving us back to the academy. Grabbing Ben's arm.

"Vanya." I grunted through the pain. He nodded and ran up the stairs; Klaus and Diego were searching for Mom and Pogo while despite my protests, I'm stubborn even with a bullet lodged in my arm, Luther carried me to the emergency room where Vanya had laid a week before. I kept my eyes closed until I heard Pogo tell Vanya she had to leave. Feeling her clutch my hand, I squeezed it back: trying to comfort her and let her know I would be okay.

"Number Seven!" My father's voice shouted towards Vanya, she stuttered a reply unable to explain her concern for me without our father blaming something on her and possibly seperating us. How dare he? I'm lying here with a bullet in my arm and the only person that gives a shit about me with no ulterior motive, he decides to scream at her and distress her even more.

"Leave her alone." I said trying to  sound threatening, "Is she not allowed to be caring and compassionate? Or do you only care about powers? I want her here and she's staying." Well that shut him up, after he left we all began to laugh and I watched Vanya's beautiful smile out of the corner of my eye, her laugh lit up the room.

"You broke your promise!"

"Really Vanya?" I laughed, she was so adorable, "That's your main concern?"

"Not my main concern, but close second" She smirked back, I don't know if this classified as flirting or just friendly joking. For a genius I don't know much about other people. I smiled broadly to match her, realising how stupid I would look, mid-surgery smiling like an imbecile. "What a pair we are, two invalids." She added, knowing that being referred to ask weak would irk me. But, she called us we and a pair. Five and Vanya, Vanya and Five. A pair.

"I beg your pardon, I am not an invalid." I said acting like I was really offended. We continued joking back and forth until I realised that Mom was finishing the last stitch.

After helping me settle into my bed, she started to leave. Before I knew what I was doing I was asking her to read to me. She came back with a hardback Pride and Predjudice clasped to her chest. She asked me where to sit, noticing she was shivering slightly, I told her to sit next to me. Our shoulders and elbows were touching, she was cautious not to push me into the wall. Slowly my arm curled round her back and her head settled into the crook of my neck. Soon we fell into a deep slumber that I wished I could stay in forever.

Abruptly, Vanya's warmth dissapeared. And later she tapped on my shoulder trying to wake me up. I groaned in protest and turned over. Sitting up and rubbing my eyes, I realised Mom was here with dinner. I raised my eyebrow to see if Vanya was going to stay, when she and Mom left I watched her leave and vanish down the hall to her room. Confused, I didn't understand what had unsettled her. Oh... she was embarrassed because of how we were sleeping. It's not weird, is it? I wouldn't know because I've only ever know two girls and their both legally my sisters. What's the ettiquette when it comes to girls? Should I ask Luther? Not a good idea. Maybe Allison or a book? That seems like a safer bet.
