Allison's words echoed in my head when Vanya glanced at me. Burning red, I looked back down at my breakfast. Watching Vanya questioning Allison's carefull watch. I silently begged her not to say anything. Her evil smirk and raised eyebrow signified she was keeping the secret. Does no one here know how to be subtle? Father berated Vanya for being ordinary but he didn't know his words didnt matter she was just happy to be included.

"Number Two, you'll be practicing moving target practice. Seven, walk back and forth infront of the podiums and Number Two must throw and not hit you." My chest ached at his words and I threw a panicked look at Vanya. Ignoring me, she started to walk and and the first two narrowly missed her but the third yanked her backwards by pinning her to the podium.  She handed the knives back with indifference. Allison, Luther and Klaus were sent back inside. If I wasn't nervous before, I certainly was now. Vanya tried to soothe me as she climbed to the top of the podium. Everything went in slow motion, she fell and I jumped and held her tightly. We arrived back after the second jump and nearly fell over. After another ruthless comand form our father I whispered a deadly and sacred promise.

"I won't let you get hurt, and if anything happens, I'll kill him"

I meant it.

At the second podium she fell for longer before I could catch her but I still did. The last podium leered threateningly. Wrapping my arms around her small frame tightly, I tried to jump us to safety but my powers flickered. This time, she realised we were really falling and held onto me with a vice like grip. We plummeted onto the crash mats and I groaned at the sudden burst of pain. I held her down onto me. I never wanted to let go, she tried to get up but I was adamant and pulled her back to me and mumbled useless apologies. Everything was silent until Ben's laughter grew louder. She jumped away as if I had burned her, I was offended until I realised how we had been lying. I couldn't concentrate, I had put her life in danger, my failure could have killed her. My mind was numb and barely engaging as he explained the next task, I snapped up as he mentioned fatal. I opened my mouth to scream as my arm was yanked backwards roughly.

"Please don't be angry Five, he's just trying to push yout abilities." She soothed, looking me in the eyes and comforting me.

"No" I protested with a frown, " He's trying to antagonise me by getting you hurt and what if I fail? I've already risked your life once today."

"That's where your wrong, you won't make the same mistake twice and motivating and antagonising are often the same thing. I don't think he considered your feelings when he chose me to be a human dart board. I'm the least useful, he needs Mom and Pogo and all of you but he doesn't need me so he doesn't mind risking me" Guilt flowed through my body as I watched the tears sheen over her eyes. Grabbing her hand and looking deeply into her eyes, trying to assure she was needed and loved, if not by that monster than by me.

"But I need you... I need you Vanya."

"Well then we better hope Diego cares a smidgen about me," It was a joke but she identified by hope to a tee. Hopefully, Diego cared enough about either of us or valued his own life enough too not kill her. Not killing her is all I ask for. Jumping to the first knife, it never reached Vanya. Pridefull, I didn't jump in time to stop the knife that tore open the skin on my left arm. Angry, concerned and determined to stop anymore damage I made sure the next knifes didn't get within half a metre of Vanya or any of her appendages.  Grasping her hand , I grinned triumphantly at Diego as Mom grabbed the bandages. I could feel my face turn a horrid red as Mom announced Vanya would have to remove her shirt. Me and Diego, who were the only people still in the courtyard other than Vanya and Mom, turned and stared at the tree in the distance. I turned to early and my face went even redder, which I didn't think was possible, as I saw the beautifull curve of her back . I stared slightly, but blinked furiously when I realised how weird and creepy I was being but nonetheless she laughed. Her face lit up and I saw a confidence I'd never known before. Seeing she couldn't put  her shirt back on. I walked over slowly and removed my blazer. Briefly looking in her eyes, asking for permission, I draped the blazer over her shoulders so she could get to another shirt without displaying herself to everyone. I felt possessive and protective. If anyone so much as glanced at her or made any sort of remark I would slit their throats. Some would say I'm being dramatic, and I honestly agree.
