"Grace!"
I glance behind me and notice someone running towards me. It's the jock that asked if I was lesbian weeks ago in art. I don't know how I remember that.
"You know my name?" I ask quietly as he finally catches up with me.
"Yeah."
"I don't know yours."
"Really? Damn. You don't like football then, huh?"
I shake my head. "Too much physical exercise. And people just get hurt."
He laughs a bit and it makes me smile. I'd be lying if I said he wasn't attractive. He's got brown hair and these green eyes and he's tall enough that I have to look up at him. He's not as muscular as your average footballer which I find even more attractive, I don't like insanely muscular guys. Or girls. Or people overall.
"Adam."
"Huh?"
"My name. It's Adam."
"Oh. Nice to meet you Adam."
"I would say the same for you but I already know you."
I let out a small laugh and Adam smiles but something flashes through his eyes and I think something's on his mind.
"You're gay."
I'm rather taken aback. It wasn't an insult, I could tell by the tone. I think he's asking me.
"No," I mumble. "I'm not gay."
"You're dating that new girl, Parker, though."
"Yeah, but I'm not gay."
"Oh. You're bisexual?"
"Basically."
"Basically?"
"Does it matter what I am?" I snap and Adam leans back a bit, realising he's struck a nerve.
"Sorry," he mumbles and he suddenly looks like a hurt puppy. Maybe not all jocks are emotionless idiots.
"Agh, no, it's okay. I'm just on the edge today."
"So you're not mad at me? Good. I don't want to start off something between us on a bad note."
I feel my stomach flip a bit. He wants to be friends?"
"You want to be friends with me?"
"Hell yeah, Grace Rye. I've always admired you. You're a badass, always have been. ever since we were kids."
I suddenly remember who he is.
"Oh, my god. You're Adam Johnston."
"Yeah.I didn't wanna say anything in case you've got like, a memory problem, or something. Or I thought you just didn't want to know me."
"No-! Oh god, no. I'm sorry, I've never been good at remembering people."
"It's alright! I'm glad you don't hate me or anything."
Adam and I grew up together. He was always the cool guy at middle school. While all his friends were assholes and such, he was the nice guy that paid attention to the people that didn't mean that much in school. Like me. I was pretty unpopular at school, the rest of my friends were always popular. Josh was a jock, so was Chase, Lovelle and Tiffany were the cute girls all the jocks wanted to date and Oscar and Oli were the talented kids who's work everyone wanted to see. I was just kind of in the background, we were all still friends but I was never really part of the major crowd.
I smile softly at Adam and he shakes his head.
"I have a game tomorrow during fourth and fifth period. Will you come?"
