I still love you

Present day

I look at Tyson with wide eyes and an open mouth. I couldn't believe he was here. Tears slip down my cheeks but I don't care. He's the man who broke my heart all those years ago and now he's here. Standing in front of me. The way he said my name caused goosebumps to roll on my skin but before he could say anything else, I slammed the door in his face. "Melody. Please, open the door." His voice was calm and soothing. "We need to talk."

"No." My finger train over the tears that slipped. Wiping them away to let me think better. "Leave. I have a very important meeting with a new editor and I need this to go perfectly." I can't have Mr. Knight coming over to see me like this. Like a mess. After all, my entire future is riding on this one business deal.

"There was never an editor Mel." Tyson sighs as I feel my heart drop.

     "What do you mean?"

Tyson sighed. "Open the door and I promise, I will explain everything." I can hear the truth laced in his words. For some odd reason, my legs carry me towards the door as my arm pulls it open for him. A smile plasterers itself on his face as his bright blue eyes light up. I haven't seen him this happy in almost ten years.

"Speak." Authority was clear in my voice. I wait for his explanation. I know this isn't going to be easy, I just need him out of here as soon as possible so I can find an actual editor for my book.

His chuckled sent chills down my body. "Wow." He shook his floppy hair. Almost the same as how he had it all those years ago. "You're not even going to invite me in." I raise a brow and cross my arms. My body leans against the door post waiting for him to ask properly.  "May I come in? This could take a while."

Biting the bottom of my lip, I play the pros and cons of this situation and how it could end. Both situations leading to Tyson walking out that door unhappy. Sighing, I nod my head and push the door open with my left leg. Nodding my head towards the inside of my penthouse, Tyson quickly follows and closes the door behind him. Turning around, I kick my heels off my feet and place them neatly on the carpet besides the door. "Take your shoes off. I just waxed the floors." Tyson nods his heads and removes his fancy Italian leather shoes, his feet now being left in black dress socks while I remain bare foot. I don't care. This is my home and it's just Tyson. What could go wrong?

"Alright. Start talking. I need to find an actual editor because clearly the one I originally had was made-up by my ex-boyfriend." Narrowing my eyes at him, I head towards the living room and flop down on one of my leather couches.

Tyson takes a seat besides me. "Where do I begin?"

"From the beginning would be nice." I snap sarcastically at him but that only makes him laugh.

"Alright. So, let me start from that night." I nod my head and lean back into the sofa. "After you left the night of the fire, I knew I had to go see you."

"Oh god." I muttered. My heart clenched.

Tyson shook off my comment and continued. "I went to the air port the next morning but I heard your flight number being called and that you were about to take off. I knew I was too late to say good-bye to you. I figured I would come visit you in Florida—which I did. Turns out, no matter how many times you plan out a speech in your head you always end up chickening out and back away from the opportunity. Which I did." He chuckled lightly. "I remember this one time when I came to visit you, I stood in front of your dorm room and I heard you playing our favourite song. I just knew that you were there but I couldn't get to you. I was about to knock but that was when everything hit me."
