Danny walked up the stairs and to his sons' bedrooms after a long day at work. He had gotten home later than he had planned or wanted. He carefully opened the door, but stopped when he heard his sons talking.
"I'm worried 'bout Mom and Dad." Sean said. "They say they're okay, but I don't believe them."
"Me, either. Maybe we should pray for them again? Just in case?" Jack looked down at his brother. They had a bunk bed, and would alternate who got the top every six months. At the moment it was Jack's turn for the top.
"Yeah. I'll start," Sean folded his hands and started praying. "Dear God, please help Mom and Dad to get through this. Help 'em to be strong and understanding."
"Please help them to know that we love them, and that Aunt Erin, Nicky, Uncle Jamie, Pops, and Grandpa love them, too. Please remind them that You love 'em, too. Help Mom not to have nightmares any more, and please give Dad some more patience. If there's ever a time he needs it, it's now." Jack finished.
The brothers both said, "In Jesus' name we pray, amen!" They crossed themselves and said their good nights.
Danny smiled and bit back tears. His boys were always very nice, but that may have been the nicest thing they've ever done. He walked to his room and sat on the bed. "You awake, Linda?"
"Yes," She said sleepily. "I'm glad you're alright."
"Me, too. Do you wanna hear something incredibly sweet?"
She sat up and faced her husband. "Yes. I need a little sweetness now."
"I went in to say good night to the boys, and they were praying for us. Praying for us to get through this hard time. Praying for you to get over your nightmares, and for me to be more patient."
Linda smirked. "You do need more patience..." then she started crying. "That's soo sweet!" She hugged her husband. "They're soo sweet!"
"I know."
"That makes me so happy!" She wiped her tears away.
"Then why are you crying?"
"Because I'm soo happy!" Linda looked up at Danny. "I know it might sound weird with what's happened and all, but I've never been happier than right now. Your family's so sweet! Ever since the accident, all they've done is shown love and support, tacking me on the end of the blessing. And you've been so kind and patient."
"I've been trying. But they're your family, too. Ever since I first introduced you all those years ago."
Linda smiled and hugged Danny. "We'll get through this, right?"
"We're already doing a pretty good job."
The husband and wife both went to their sons' bedroom and said good night to them. Being a cop had instilled the need to check everything more than once.
Linda and Danny made it back to their room and had a peaceful sleep.
