Danny stood up, ready to take the perp down.
"What? Where? Why?" The burglar stumbled over his words. "Why am I in handcuffs?"
"You, sir, are under arrest for breaking and entering, armed robbery, and any other sh!t I can think of," Danny aggressively pulled the perp to his feet. He led him to the stairs and contemplated throwing him down. "Wanna know what's keeping me from throwing you down the stairs?"
"Police brutality?" He questioned.
"No. Her." Danny pointed to a crying Linda. "She can't stand to see people die." He practically dragged the perp down the stairs.
"Why is she so important?"
"Because she's my wife. And you just broke into a detective's house." Danny nearly threw the perp into the squad car. "Get 'im outta my sight."
Jamie and Eddie got in the car. Jamie looked back at the perp and said, "you broke into the best NYPD detective's house."
"And what he said was true. He can charge you on whatever the hell he wants." Eddie informed him. "Because there's practically a law against everything."
Back in the house, Danny held a shaking Linda. He rubbed her back, trying to calm her. Danny hated himself for thinking about the fact that his wife was only in a robe. She was terrified, and his mind thought of that.
"You'll be okay," he assured her.
"Everyone keeps saying that! But am I really?" She hugged Danny tighter.
"What?"
She pulled away and looked him in the eye. "Danny, it's been three long months. Three months of crying, of nightmares, of paranoia. And on top of all that, I have to take pills. Pills for things I never thought I'd have! I almost died, and everyone's telling me 'it's gonna be okay'. Well, it's not okay, Danny! How can it be? I almost took my own life, and you're telling me that I'll be okay? I'm gonna be messed up for the rest of my life, and people are telling me I'll be okay like people say hi. It's a reflex by now! They don't mean it!"
"Linda, slow down," Danny interrupted. "First of all, I mean it when I say you're gonna get better. Second, we will get through this."
"How can you be so sure?" She sniffed.
"Because we've gotten through everything else. And we'll get through this. I know we will. If we got through me after Fellusha, then we'll get through you after what happened."
"You're not just saying that? You promise we'll get through this together? Promise?"
"I promise." He hugged her again, holding her tight, promising he'd never ever let her go.
