"why are you acting like such a bitch?" sean spit, as they arrived to kaycee's house.
"leave me alone, sean." she yelled, grabbing her dance bag as she stormed out of the car.
sean took his keys out of the car, throwing them into the drivers seat as he slammed the car door. "kaycee, talk to me! what the fuck is wrong?"
"i told you to leave me alone, why can't you just do the one thing i ask you." she cried, as she fumbled with the house key.
"no, not until you tell me what that was all about."
"sean, i don't want to talk about it right now.
please just go home. please."
"kayc, you've been acting cold to me all day. please just tell me what's wrong." sean begged, his hand falling on her shoulder. "is it because of her?"
kaycee scoffed, rolling her eyes as she finally got the door open, completely ignoring his question. "thanks for the ride, sean."
"so it is her? kaycee, im sorry that i didn't tell you sooner, but i really like her and i was hoping you would understand." sean said, standing between the door.
"sean, it's not about her. please can we not talk about this. i'm in a bad mood and i really don't want to talk to you right now."
"kaycee, talk to me. please, tell me what's wrong. what can i do to fix this?" sean begged, taking her hand in his.
"love me back." she thought. if only she had the guts to say how she felt out loud, but she continued to stay silent, like always.
it tore her apart, knowing that things were going to change and as many times he tried to convince her that things wouldn't, they both knew that they were.
she knew that he deserved love, but it hurt knowing that it wasn't hers.
"kaycee, please. talk to me." sean begged, gazing into her foggy eyes.
her lips opened, she was finally getting the courage to tell him, and just as she began to talk his phone rang.
hesitation filled his face as he contemplated whether to answer it or not.
she scoffed as he pressed the green button, her voice radiating from the phone as he placed it to his ear, "hey baby."
kaycee watched as his face lit up, a smile dancing across his lips as he heard her voice.
as much as she was hurt, she couldn't help but be happy for him. he was her best friend after all, and nothing was going to change that.
she felt a warm tear slip down her cheek, slipping into the corners of her mouth.
sean noticed immediately, worry filling his eyes. "hey hold on for a second."
"kayc, what's wrong?" sean asked, his hand covering the speaker.
"nothing." she said, a sad smile hanging on her lips. "i'm just really happy for you."
he walked over to her, wrapping his arms around her waist as he wiped away the tears that kissed her cheeks. "thank you kayc, she makes me really, really happy."
"i'm glad she does." she murmured, untangling herself from his arms. "i should go inside, thanks for the ride."
"kayc, can you tell me what was wrong earlier?"
"it was nothing. someone just said something during class that made me upset and i took it out on you, don't worry." she smiled, trying to convince him that she was okay, or was she trying to convince herself?
"we can facetime tonight and you can tell me what happened."
"it's okay, i'm sure you'd rather be facetiming your girlfriend. trust me it was nothing, i'm fine now."
"whatever you say, i'll see you tomorrow! night." sean yelled, as he slipped into his car.
she waved him off before running into her room, trying her hardest to keep the tears from spilling.
"he's happy and that's all that matters." she told herself, lying under the cold sheets as she stared blankly into the ceiling.
"he looks happier." she cried, a tear slipping from the corner of her eye.
"and it's not because of me."
