Tanner pulled her wife closer as the front door opened.
"I hope that's Danny."
"Go look."
She slipped on a sweatshirt before pulling the pistol from the nightstand.
"What the hell are you doing? It's 5 in the morning."
Danny was hanging up her coat as Tanner made her way down the stairs.
"Mac has early football practice so I had her drop me off before."
"Well Get back to bed."
Tanner was half way up the stairs when her oldest daughter called out to her.
"Momma."
"Yeah?"
"Mac broke up with me."
Before she could get down the stairs tears rushed down the girl's face.
"What happen?"
"She said it's personal and that it's not my fault."
"Give her some time."
Tanner waited on the bleachers for Mac to come out of the locker room.
"Mac."
The football player froze at the stern voice of her ex-girlfriend's Momma.
"Mrs. Sin."
"Just because you break my daughters heart doesn't mean my name changes."
"Look I'm sorry-"
"Take a seat I want to talk."
Mac sat beside the tattooed carpenter with a sad expression.
"I understand that some relationships just don't work out, but no matter what I want you to know that Autumn and I are here for you. Is everything alright at home?"
"I love her with everything bone in my body."
"I know that."
"But she loves Mackenzie."
Tanner tilted her head in confusion as Mac avoid eye contact.
"What are you trying to say?"
"I'm not supposed to be this."
Suddenly it clicked with Tanner as she held out her hand for Mac to shake.
"I'm Tanner."
Mac smiled as they shook hands.
"Malcom."
Tanner smiled at the football player before standing up.
"I think my daughter would be just as in love with Malcom."
"You think?"
"I know she misses her boyfriend more then anything, right now."
"Thanks Tanner."
Malcom sat on the end of his ex-girlfriend's bed with his drivers license in hand.
"I know you're upset with me but after I show you this you'll understand."
Danny studied the card with a slight smile.
"I love you, Malcom."
"Even if I'm a man?"
"As long as you're my man."
"I'll be your man."
Danny kissed Malcom as she pulled him closer.
"I know you're still hesitant, so I want you to know that I love you whether you are a man or a woman. You're my sexy little football player, you're my sexy little boyfriend."
"Thank you for understanding."
"Don't thank me."
