One of the maids of the household Plan currently lived at must have a crush on him. Or maybe it was several maids, he didn't know.
He didn't like it. It was always awkward when he had to turn down girls, like he unfortunately needed to almost every night he worked at Gravity.
It was a mystery to him how they could want to flirt with him, he certainly didn't do anything to encourage them.
But here, it was more complicated. He didn't know who it was and he didn't know how to discourage them without endangering his room here. He liked it here, he didn't want to move somewhere else.
He had developed a morning routine that involved having breakfast with maids and some other personnel by the pool or under the porch of the pool house, depending on the weather. He had come to like these relaxed moments with the people working here. It reminded him of the village at home, where people often gathered to have breakfast or dinner together before and after work spontaneously.
But... a few days ago, someone had started leaving lunch boxes in front of his door before he got up in the morning.
The boxes were always very thoughtfully prepared, with nice decorations and much more variety than the rice and vegetables he had usually made for himself. Some of it was so exotic or looked of such exceptional quality that Plan suspected it had been meant for the owners of the house.
He hoped that whoever made these for him didn't get themselves in trouble with their employers on his behalf.
Sometimes, the boxes were accompanied by little sticky notes of encouragement, too. Reminding him to eat well, to get enough sleep, or to have a good day at uni or at work. The maid who was writing these seemed to be very well informed of his schedule, whenever he had something special coming up.
Now, Plan's natural reaction would have been to refuse these gifts, since he wouldn't be able to reciprocate whatever feelings any girls had for him. If he knew who was behind it, he would tell them to stop. But whoever made these was very discreet and Plan had never managed to catch them. His general pleas with the girls in his breakfast rounds had done nothing to discourage them, either.
If he could, he would leave the boxes untouched, but as a farmer, Plan knew how much work went into producing food and he couldn't let it go to waste. So, he had reluctantly taken and eaten all of it. He had to admit that he enjoyed the fancy tastes of these lunchboxes. They often contained food he had never tried before and would never have been able to afford.
He had tried leaving a note to the person making the boxes, thanking them and telling them to stop – but all he found the next day was a hastily scribbled answer below it: nice try. But ineffective.
Even though the whole situation made him uncomfortable, Plan still found himself collecting the little notes of encouragement from the lunch boxes on the walls of his room.
*~*~*
"I think I'm gonna invite Win as the fifth member," Mean announced to a Rose and Viola out of the blue.
They had been studying in their private study room in peace until now and there had been no real reason for Mean to make that statement.
"The ex-boyfriend?"
Rose raised an eyebrow.
Despite Mean's original intention of keeping his personal interest in Plan to himself, once Viola had figured it out, it had become an open secret among the three of them.
It had surprised Mean somewhat to what extent both his friends were invested in his sorry attempt at romance.
"The one."
