"Oh, you finally did the do!"
Rose's cheeky shouted comment greeted Plan and Mean almost immediately after they had entered the small sitting room at the Attchitsataporn mansion that the family had offered for their crisis meeting.
She sat on one of the sofas and smiled very broadly at both of them. Rose and Viola had arrived at the house early, while Mean and Plan were still talking to the Attachitsataporns about sponsoring the Geneva trip and otherwise pacifying the suspicious sponsors.
Plan sometimes had a hard time wrapping his head around how completely different from her public image Rose was in private even now.
"What makes you think that?" Mean asked, with a barely masked glare in her direction.
"Oh, please, Meanie. I'm happy for you!"
She held up her hands in an attempt to appease him, but she couldn't resist smugly offering her reasoning:
"Well, for one thing, you're both walking a bit strained, like you're suspiciously sore around the middle. And both your faces are practically glowing with happiness, as if we weren't here to talk about a crisis at all. Honestly, I'd judge anyone who can't tell immediately. It must've been good."
While Mean still looked grumpy, Plan found it best not to dignify this speculation with any comment.
Rather, it worried him that Rose found that they looked too obviously happy. That wasn't good at all. What if one of the many people who were following their every move outside noticed that they both looked happy at the same time?
How could he make sure he didn't glow, as Rose had called it?
They couldn't afford anymore rumours, particularly now. Maybe it was lucky, that they hadn't gone outside today, yet.
Viola, who had been lounging next to Rose in a relaxed manner until now, got up with a smirk, walked over to Mean and cordially put her arm over his shoulders.
"I'm happy for you, Meanie. You have come so far since the start of the semester."
From where he was standing, Plan could see Mean rolling his eyes behind Viola's back and slowly removing her arm from his shoulders.
"Let's just sit down and wait for Win, he should be here, soon, too."
Plan followed Mean's suggestion immediately, and sat down on the other sofa opposite of where Rose was waiting.
Everything that changed the subject was more than welcome.
It wasn't like he was ashamed of the fact that they had had sex together. They had been in a committed relationship for a while, it was only natural that they would want to do that eventually.
It was just... why?
Why were people even interested in that? He had never thought about what might or might not happen in the girls' bedroom. Why should they care what happened in his?
He slowly took his mobile phone out of his pocket, somewhat intending to go over the new article in Science that Prof. Marsden had sent to him this morning. Only when he had his thumb on the screen to start unlocking the phone, he remembered that Win had sent a message to him earlier:
"Oh, I forgot," he said absent-mindedly, "Win wrote that he'll be late, he's stuck in traffic. Looks like there's an unusually heavy traffic jam this morning."
It had to be something, if the traffic jam was unusual even for Bangkok. Plan would probably never truly be able to grasp how many people were living in this city, and at times, it seemed like all of them were on the road together.
