"You really can't come with us?"
Looking into Plan's disappointed eyes made Mean seriously reconsider his options. Maybe he could afford to skip classes again... maybe he could convince the agency to go with a less elaborate look for his photo shoot, so he didn't need as much preparation.
Plan sat on the workbench in Mean's workshop, Mean was standing in front of him, and they were holding each other in a loose hug and the promise of more kisses.
When they had first entered the workshop, they could barely keep their lips apart from each other, but unfortunately, they couldn't afford to use their time truly efficiently – without talking.
Before Mean had even had a chance to ask all the questions he had, Plan had started to try and convince him to join the shopping trip.
"Please?"
These innocently pleading eyes would surely one day be the death of him.
Damn... what should he do now? It was risky being seen with Plan alone, even with Tio around, before the feature ran, he couldn't miss more classes, the photo shoot was important... too much spoke against it.
"Another time..." he said with a heavy sigh, lowering his head, "I hope there'll be another time."
"I'm sure there will be."
He slowly looked up at Plan again and was caught off guard by the gentle smile that greeted him.
"I hope so, too."
"It's not just hope. We'll make sure, won't we?"
Finally, he had an opening to ask the question that had been burning inside of him since breakfast.
"You are so much more confident today. What happened?"
"Oh just... you know... I thought it through last night. And I made up my mind. Now, it's all clear to me."
It wasn't much of an explanation – if it was clear to him... could he... tell him? Maybe?
To Mean, not much was clear at the moment.
"I hope this doesn't alarm you too much, but..."
Mean shivered when Plan ran his hand through his hair, softly caressing his head. If he didn't control himself, he might want more than kisses soon.
"I have come to the conclusion that I want to stay here," Plan continued, still holding him close, "I want to become a real physicist, not just a farmer who dabbles in physics and I want to be a good member of White Hand from now on. And this also means..."
The pause seemed to drag on forever.
Mean was entranced by the affectionate way Plan now looked at him.
"You're stuck with me. Because I can't do all of this without you."
It took a moment for Mean to feel the weight of these words. The myriads of ways this could go wrong. They had gone on one date, if you wanted to count the Planetarium, as Mean did. They had started their relationship not even two days ago.
This was crazy.
But... Mean barely needed to think it through himself – Plan had clearly done the maths...The situation didn't allow for anything else. Either Plan was confident like that – or he might suddenly revert back to trying to escape and return to the rice paddies.
Maybe... maybe that was what Mean himself needed, too.
He had avoided the mere possibility of dating another guy, because he had feared the many unknowns, the risks it involved. Knowing that Plan had a very strong motivation to stay with him, was incredibly reassuring. He could count on him sticking with him, even if things got difficult.
