Chapter 12

It was a Friday. Atticus was staying up late in the office. May biglaang board meeting daw kaya hindi ito makakasundo kay Celine that afternoon. Baka daw gabihin na rin ito ng uwi.

She was walking towards the car picking her up. Ipinasundo na kasi lamang siya sa driver ni Atticus.

"Girl!!!" someone shouted from behind her.

Celine turned around and saw Michelle rushing to her. "Yes?"

"Paano ka pupunta sa party ni Alden? May kotse ka bang dala? Makikisabay naman ako sayo! Walang maghahatid sakin mamaya."

Nawala sa isip niya ang party ni Alden. Ngayong gabi nga pala iyon. "Nako, wala pa akong isusuot."

"Perfect! Dala ko na ang mga damit ko actually. If you want, prepare tayo sa bahay niyo tapos sabay na tayo pumunta kina Alden? I'll hell you pick something to wear para mainlove sayo lalo ang lalaking iyon," suhestyon nito.

"Hoy! Grabe ka, Michelle! Magkaibigan lang kami non!" she countered. But she liked the idea of bonding with Michelle. She's her closest girl friend as of now pero syempre, hindi pa niya sinasabi dito na boyfriend niya ang stepbrother niya.

Not everyone would understand. So for now, it will be a family secret.

"Nako, Celine, ewan ko sayo! Napakamanhid mo!"

"Tara na nga! Naghihintay na yung driver ko."

9PM. Pumasok sina Michelle at Celine sa isang malaking mansion in an exclusive subdivision. The music was blaring and there were a lot of people.

"Ang ingay," she shouted on Michelle's ear dahil hindi na sila nagkakarinigan.

Hinila siya ni Michelle papasok and they saw a huge sala kung saan may mga nag-iinuman. And on one corner, may isang couple na nagme-makeout na.

On the other side of the hall was a music room with a grand piano. Nandoon si Alden at kausap ang ilan sa mga classmates nila. Michelle pulled her towards the group.

"Alden!" bati ni Michelle habang papalapit sila sa grupo.

Everyone looked at the two of them, being newcomers at late din. But Alden was only looking at her.

"I thought hindi ka na darating," Alden said, talking close to her ears dahil maingay but eyes still fixed on her.

Michelle mingled with the others at iniwan siya kay Alden. Sumenyas ito ng two thumbs up sa kanya bago sila iwan ni Alden.

"Pwede ba naman yun? Birthday mo nga, di ba? Happy birthday!" bati niya sa binata when Michelle left.

"Thanks!" sagot nito at inabutan siya ng isang cup. "Drink up! Birthday ko naman. You need to have fun tonight. Kahit tonight lang." He smiled and nudged her to take the cup.

"Ano to?" she asked.

"Just beer," he said. "Have you had dinner?"

Tumango siya. "Michelle and I ate before we left my house."

"That's good! So ready ka na pala makipag-inuman. Come!" paghila nito sa kanya into the circle kung saan nakaupo lahat ng mga kaklase nila. "We'll have so much fun!"

Her eyelids were so heavy. But there was just too much light. Napakaliwanag. Sobrang liwanag. Unti-unti niyang binuksan ang nga mata even if nasisilaw siya sa liwanag na iyon.

She saw a window. The curtains were open and it was bright outside.

She tried to sit up pero sobrang sakit ng ulo niya. Pumipintig iyon. "Shit," she muttered under her breath. At bigla niyang naalala kung saan siya nanggaling kagabi. Pero hindi niya maalala kung ano nang nga nangyari pagkatapos siyang painumin ng painumin ng mga kaklase niya.

"Glad you're now awake," Atticus' voice boomed all over the room. She turned to her other side to see him sitting down on a chair beside the bed. His bed!

Dito pala siya nakatulog sa kwarto nito kagabi. "H-how did I get here?..." she asked, confused.

"Ang tigas talaga ng ulo mo! I told you before na hindi kita pinapayagang pumunta sa party na iyon, hindi ba? But look at what you did!" sigaw nito at tumayo na ngayon sa harapan niya.

"I just want to celebrate with-"

"Cut the bullshit, Celine! I knew what you were doing! Sabi na nga ba! I know what happens in parties like those."

Celine knew he was really mad. Galit na galit ang anyo nito ngayon. She really is in big trouble. So she did the only thing she knew that could help her right now. Kailangan niya itong lambingin ng kaunti. "Babe, I'm sorry," she said while trying to grab his right arm as he was pacing back and forth in front of her, on the side of the bed.

"Tinatawagan kita kagabi! Ten missed calls, Celine, at wala kang sinagot ni isa!" sigaw nito at tinabig ang kamay niya while she was trying to reach out for him. "Had I known na magpupunta ka dun, ikinadena na sana kita dito sa kwarto ko kahapon!"

"I'm here now and wala namang masamang nangyari sakin di ba?"

He stopped pacing and looked at her, with so much hatred in his eyes. He was breathing heavier than usual. "Do you like him?" biglang tanong nito that shocked her.

"Like who?" she asked dumbfounded.

"That guy who's the same age as you," he spat, not able to mention the name of Alden.

"Alden?" she inquired. "God, no! Ano bang nangyayari sa'yo?"

He looked down, in deep thought. At pagkatapos ay tumalikod na. "Manang Celia left some food on the table. Eat para mawala ang hangover mo."

"Will you stay with me today?" she asked.

"Pupunta ako ng opisina. Marami akong gagawin," he said.

She stood up at hinabol ito ng papalabas na ito ng kwarto. "Please... stay with me for now. Sorry kung sinuway kita. I just wanted to have some fun."

He turned around and faced her.

Nagulat si Celine ng makita ang hitsura nito. He seemed like he was... in pain. "So your definition of fun is kissing a guy behind my back, Celine? Yes, I saw you. Sinundo kita kagabi ng malaman kong dumiretso ka sa party na iyon at hindi mo sinasagot ang mga tawag ko. Now tell me, ano nga bang pinagkaiba mo sa Mama mo?" With that, he left her.

At ng isara ni Atticus ang pinto, nag-una-unahang kumawala ang mga luha sa mata niya. Did she really do that? Did she really kiss someone else? Who?

But the worst part is hindi niya alam kung magagalit ba siya sa sarili o kay Atticus for insulting her and her mother?
