I listened to the phone dialling.
Ryker was standing next to me, his hand on my back in reassurance that I wasn't alone.
May Parker picked up. "Hi! This is May Parker, who's this?"
"Hi, May, it's Ashley, is Peter there?" I asked.
"He didn't text you?" May asked.
I shook my head slowly, widening my eyes at Ryker. "No... Why?"
"He's just gone to Germany with Tony Stark," she said, not realising how much pain she caused me with those eight little words. "Isn't it great?"
Ryker steadied me as I swayed on my feet. "Yeah. Great. Well, it was nice talking to you, May. I should be going now."
"Oh, of course, dear. Feel free to pop around any time." May replied as kind as ever.
My mouth was dry but I managed to get a, "Thanks, bye," out.
"Bye, now," May said as she hung up.
My chest was numb with fury.
As Ryker and I stood in the recently restored-to-normal apartment that the WW used to own, my hands were shaking.
"He's in Germany." I told him in response to his questioning eyes. "With Tony."
Ryker's eyes widened. "No."
"Yes." I snapped, sitting on the couch. "What now?"
Ryker shrugged.
After sitting for a moment, an idea popped into my head.
My eyes trailed to my phone again, as did Ryker's.
"You don't think-" he started, then stopped. "Are you sure?"
I picked up my phone. "I'm sure."
The phone rang twice before I heard a voice.
"Hello?"
"Ryker and I are coming in."
"Who is this? Ashley?"
"Yeah, it's Ashley. I heard you need all the hands you can get."
"Yeah, kind of."
"Then I'll see you soon, Captain America."
