Chapter Sixteen

Third day without food and just water and Raven was heating up like the sun. She washed her face and held her hair up into a high ponytail and put on some fresh clothes. She needed to get some food and she had to face her fears before she'll starve to death or worse.

She put on a cotton shirt and over it was a brown wool turtle neck long-sleeve and zipped a leather jacket over it. She put on some dark blue jeans and put on a pair of sneakers even if wearing them hurts like hell. She bit her lower lip and she placed her foot inside the shoe. She grabbed a small pouch she found in the closet and placed some money in it with a pair of sunglasses.

She gripped the dresser and pushed herself up to stand and walk towards the door without limping. She gripped the doorknob and took a deep breath before opening it. The sunlight blinded her making her fish through the pouch and immediately put on the sunglasses.

It was a sunny day but she was shivering in her three layer clothes. She closed the door behind her and made a step towards the sidewalk. She made another step and another and found herself standing in the sidewalk.

Raven didn't know where she would go, she never seen this part of town. There was no cab or any buses in sight, and the only thing to do now is walk. She sighed and made her way through the community.

She found a convenient store a few blocks from the house and she stepped in as the sliding glass doors automatically opened. The cool breeze of the air condition made her shake in her clothes. She made her way through the shelves and took some canned food. There were no pain relievers but she found some bandages.

She made her way to the counter and felt heavy stares on her and it made her feel uneasy. Actually, it made her feel like Rebecca is using these people to be her watch and she didn't like it one bit. She was already limping towards the counter and placed her items in front of the cashier.

The cashier didn't look at her and just punched her items. She gave made an inward sigh of relief.

"That'll be twenty," the cashier said and looked at Raven with a wide eye.

Raven took out a hundred dollar bill and extended it to the cashier, and when she saw that the blond haired lady was starring right back at her. She fought herself not to react and to stay calm.

The lady took her bill and punched it making the cash register ting!

"You're Mr. Sander's daughter right?" the lady said in a whisper as she handed Raven her change.

Raven just nodded and took her change with a shaking hand.

"You're lucky you got out of that house.  It burned down, haven't heard news from you. Police declared you were missing," she said and handed Raven the paper bag.

"Er, I went to a relative," Raven replied looking away from the lady's stare.

"You be careful. The town here is full of shit," the lady said disgusted and gave a nod.

Raven gave her a fake smile and hurriedly went out the store. The air was hot outside and it made her sicker than she was before. The cold temperature from the store and the hot temperature from outside, her body didn't have had the time to adjust.
