Chapter Twenty One

Drake had been searching for Raven for two days now and hadn't gotten any lucky at all.

He stepped on the front porch of a modern English house that was painted in blue. There was an indoor swing that hanged on the left side of the porch facing a small flower garden.

Drake opened the door and the smell of freshly baked pie filled the room. He closed the door gently behind door and walked on the carpeted floor towards the kitchen.

On his way, he caught a slight glimpse of the only picture frame that was sitting on top of the stone chimney of the living room. The room had a built in TV on the wall just below the head of a stuffed moose.

The coach was velvet red and had a round wooden coffee table in front of it. On the left side of the living room was a shelf of books and on the right was an antique acoustic piano of dark brown.

He pushed his way through the Mexican parlor styled doors and entered the kitchen that had a marble floor. It had a stoned counter and a few wooden stools. Just above it was a wine and glass holder and a few dim lights.

In front of the counter was the tiled sink and a stove with a griller on its left. Hardwood cupboards were overhead and a small window just above the faucet. And on the left side of the kitchen was the dining set.

Drake sat on one of the stools as Edith pulled out a freshly baked apple pie and gently placed it on the window sill.

"You didn't go home last night," Edith said her back on Drake as she opened slightly the window then closed the stove.

Drake sighed. "I'm sorry mom," he said and pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Don't be hard on yourself dear. You'll find her," Edith said facing Drake with a reassuring smile.

"I know I'll find her. I just don't know where to look. I'm afraid she'll get to her first before I do," Drake said frustrated.

He didn't have any luck and he wasn't planning to give up. But the thought that Rebecca might have gotten to her first was nerve wracking.

"Don't worry about Rebecca. Worry about Raven first."

     "But mom –"

"No buts honey. You're mother knows," Edith said with a wink as she headed to a door behind a wall, that headed towards the cellar.

Drake went down and followed Edith down.

Drake was a few steps down when Edith called out. "Close the door sweetie," she said making Drake smirk and walk back up then closed the door.

Edith turned on the light switch revealing a small antique lab. There were liquids of different colors inside different bottles and flasks on the top shelves. On the lower shelves were tinted jars with different labels. A few shelves were against the wall with different artworks and vintage sculptures.
