Long ago there lived a man blessed by the gods and revered by the people as their saviour. His named was Ardyn Lucis Caelum and he was to have served as the first king of Lucis..however..some things are not meant to be. This story begins before the reign of the chosen king of light for having turned the empire to shambles and shrouded the world in darkness, Ardyn, erstwhile healer of those who ailed, now sits atop of the Lucian throne denied him by the crystal some two millennia ago.

A little over 2000 before the reign of the chosen king.

In the back seat of a taxi cab, on his way to the founders day festival, a young man listened to the news on the radio as he watched the scenery from outside the window go by.

"Tension between the two countries remains high, with neither nation showing signs of backing down. in other news; a member of the border patrol has been reported MIA since sometime before dawn this morning. The missing officer has been identified as 28 year-old Mars Sapientia. Although Officer Sapientia allegedly reported for duty at his appointed time, fellow officers say he disappeared soon after and has no been sighted since. Officer Sapientia is a tall, fair skilled male and was last seen wearing his border patrol fatigues. Anyone with information on Officer Sapientia's whereabouts are requested to contact the Crown City Police immediately." The News station reported while the man who appeared the be the reported missing: Officer Sapientia, looked out the window..though his reflection showed who he truly was..Ardyn Izunia.

The News station continues; "And now, a word from the Public Information Bureau: Today marks the anniversary of the founding of the Kingdom of Lucis. The Founder's Day Committee has prepared a number of attractions in honour of this auspicious occasion, including a parade around the Citadel as well a statue of the Founder King himself. All are welcome and encouraged to participate in todays festivities."

"What about you? shouldn't you be out looking for your buddy?" The cab driver looked to the fake Mars Sapientia, not realising that he was the missing officer.

"Oh no, I'm on..special assignment." Ardyn smiled as he got out the cab, letting it drive off.

He looked around at his surroundings with a smirk. "Ahh..Home sweet home at last."

"Welcome to the Founders Day festival! in a moment, the parade will begin making it's way through the city. King Regis is scheduled to take part in the festivities, circling the citadel along side the statue of the founder king: Somnus Lucis Caelum." an announcer for the festival spoke up

"So this is the city Somnus built. Built on the back of his own flesh and blood." Ardyn growled a little, the love he had for his younger brother no longer existing, being replaced by pure hatred.

Before the biggest betrayal of his time..Ardyn and Somnus would argue over some things, but they always resolved it over a game of chess, letting bygones be bygones, however, such a betrayal of loyalty by declaring himself as king and the death of his oracle was something a game of chess wouldn't fix. This warranted revenge.

"Just look at them, free of care and unaware of the war beyond their wall.." he growled more.

"To ensure the safety of all festivalgoers, we ask that you please follow staff instructions. Vehicular access will also be limited in some areas around the Citadel for the festivals duration, in addition, traffic will be stopped entirely during the parade, we thank you for your cooperation." the announcer spoke cheerfully.

"What need is there to worry when brick and mortar blinds them to the suffering outside? Why venture out into the world, when you feel so safe within?" Ardyn asked no one in particular then signed slightly. "What a life to live." Ardyn then looked to the Citadel as he walked forward. "And THAT must be the Kings castle." he assumed.

Ardyn walked into the chattering crowd and looked at the sky. "Now, Let the fireworks begin!" he cheered, snapped his fingers....but nothing happened. very anti-climactic. It took a moment for him to register what was happening but he lowered his arm and looked around in disbelief as he realised that someone or something was preventing his powers from working. "Oh dear.." he said with an "Oh shit." expression. but just when he thought the fun was over, who should show up but Ifrit The Infernian.

"oh cursed be the wavering whims the gods.." he sighed assuming he'd have to battle the powerful and mightily pissed off fire god only for Ifrit to strike the Kingsglaive down, the scourge allowing Ardyn to take full control of him once their eyes connected. With a smirk..he set his plan in into motion, thus beginning the tale of the fallen king, a prisoner of fate.

Flashback

"Ardyn.." a mysterious voice spoke. "Ardyn..Oh Ardyn, you can't expect me to believed that." A young woman, The Oracle of her time, laughed as she sat with her beloved.

"Oh, but I do! You have my word." Ardyn chuckled as his head lay on the Oracles lap.

"Oh. Well in that case." she smiled as she stroked his head.

Ardyn let out a sigh, nothing could ruin this moment for him.

The Oracle, otherwise known as Aera Mirus Fleuret looked down at her beloved Ardyn and smiled. "You look exhausted, my love. Are you alright?"

Ardyn let out a chuckle as he sat up. "I am for the gods have blessed me with a power and a purpose: to cure people of what ails them." he looked at his hand then the sky with a smile. "I must see their will be done."

"Your devotion shall not go unnoticed. The gods will doubtless be watching over you. just as I shall be watching over you, every step of the way."

They both chuckled a bit in affection as their conversation continued.

"It seems to be the cure for your exhaustion is comprised of two things, one of which is rest." Aera smiled while giving her beloved the authoritive finger point.

"Oh? And the other?" Ardyn smiled, playing dumb causing Aera to giggle.

"Is me."

They both chuckled, Ardyn letting out a small "aww" affectionately. He proceeded to take her cheek and give her a kiss.

"Oh Aera, Pray be with me..always." he smiled and blushed, getting a nod from her as she giggled affectionately and placed her head on his shoulder.

Nothing could ruin this for them..but little did they know of the events yet to come..
